Do you count flowering from 12/12 switch or when you see pistil hairs?

Just throwing out there that in my (somewhat limited) experience with outdoor, I look for ones that finish in the month I need at my 44 to 45.lat. (Sept, Oct, mostly) not how long they flowered. Some just start flowering long before others and finish sooner. It is a pheno thing too, besides the strain, some phenos start sooner because it natures way of insuring survival or the species, not the plant (advantage clones). I have one this year (Archive Seed Clone of Memory Loss OG), that started flower 4 weeks ahead of a GG#4 cross called Primal Punch (clone too). The the real GG#4 is right between. This is why light dep is so important here, you can force them all to start at once with a 12 hour night.

I agree, but I do some long term planning based on when I flip to 12/12. The ladies I flipped on 9/12/19 should be out of the room sometime late November to late December!!!

I start counting after I do a thorough flush and rip all the fan leaves off. Then, and only then, is the start of the flower cycle.

Ace, Serious and Nirvana replied that their listed indoor flower times are from first appearance of pistils.

So I wrote 2 of the 3 listed... nirvana does in fact do it from seeing pistils. Ace said they do it from flip
I wrote nirvana and told them I wont buy from them then because they said flowering times vary greatly on external factors. I cant risk that personally. 2 weeks can make or break the deal for me.

What you have is called pre-flower. You're right some strain would start showing pre-flower at 4 weeks (from seed) of veg, others at 6. But this is different from full flowering stage, meaning you can let your plant veg as long as you want (some as long as 3 months of veg) before putting them to flower.

When you put them to flower that's when you start counting as to how many weeks they have been put into flower (has nothing to do with pre-flower). that's the argument in this old thread you resurrected, when to start counting......from the day you decided to put them to flower or the plants start showing full flowering stage. Again, you dont count when you started seeing pre-flower.

As to which camp is right, I say.....

If you have a schedule to keep then stick with 8-9 weeks (with the right strain) from flip to 12-12 but
if you're not in a hurry then doesnt matter how long it's been in flower, plant is ready when its mature to harvest.

What if your plants stared showing pistils while still in veg. Continued to grow in veg for almost a month before flipping to 12/12 without any bud growth, only preflowers. Once flipped the actuall buds began to form.

I do not know when to start counting in this case

Seed breeders are known for exaggerating the speed of their flower times. I would add 2 weeks to anything they claim. I count bud as the time they enter the flower room. The preflowers you are seeing are a sign that the plant is sexually mature and ready to bud. If it wasn't it would have a longer early bud stretch phase and wait to flower until it was mature.

What week would you guys guess this plant is in? it’s been growing since june. Had a gradual flip into 12 12 reducing one to two hours each day for about a week and a half starting August 23rd. The where officially on 12/12 by Sept 1st. I doubt they are only 4 weeks in..

Im about to pull her tomorrow before lights on

It looks like it still has a bit, I would wait a couple weeks. Hard to tell when it went into bud since you did it gradually. Your hairs are a majority white, some are burnt a little but not done.

Allot of amber trichs but mostly on outer leaves. Calyx’s are still mostly milky. I guess I can leave her another week or so and see how she keeps maturing

Why would one check trichs on leaves which become trim, calyxes are what we call “bud”.

Those might be amber from the cold turning the leaves purple. Are you seeing them in the purple areas?
