Ive got everything down pat. im using rockwool for the first time soaked in ph'd water 5.5.they sit inside a humidity dome at the top my dark closet.temparatures are from 76-82 degrees with 95% humidity.

Do i need light for my seeds to sprout? :joint:

nope, but the warmth helps. also helps when they do break ground. a seedling doesn't start using light energy for a day or two, after their "reserve" energy is gone from sprouting.

I heard you do. Gives them something to grow to but I may be wrong. But if you look at any germination forum they tll you to crack the seeds in the dark but as soon as they have a a tap root then put them in the medium and put a light over them. Most suggest a cfl or something not as strong as a HID.

And I don't think it can hurt.

i read that the roots dont like light + under soil they wont get any light anyways. im having trouble sprouting my seeds, and the oonly thing i can think of is not having the lights on.

Seeds do not need light to germinate - neither do they need dark - but as soon as the sprout appears it DOES need light.

Sounds like you may want to do the "paper towel" method of sprouting. Noobs and Experienced people use that method, and I will until someone shows me a better way. I always have had success with it.

Take a paper towel, fold it up, put it in a bowl or plate, wet it down, drop your seeds spaced out on it. Take another paper towel, same size, fold it the same way, place it on top. Wet it down, keep it nice and moist till they pop.

But, I always take a small cup of lukewarm water 24hrs before I towel them, and soak all of the seeds till they drop to the bottom, with is usually about 8-24hrs, depending on the seed.

i dont think i will be using paper towel methods and soaking the seeds anymore. imo its just too much damn water. i planted 4 different autoflowers 4 different strains, and i tried the soaking/paper towel method and all of them suffered root rot.

Seeds need moisture and warmth (25 to 30C is ideal) to germinate - it does not matter if they are in paper towels, soil, rockwool or any other medium. I have myself used paper towels in cold weather - easy to shove them behind the fridge where it is warm, but by no means necessary.
