Hi guys, if you start some seeds in rockwool with distilled water (all the ro in my area is filtered with other stuff too so the ppm is always like 130) do you need to add any nutes to it? I know you not supposed to for the first week or two but i couldnt find any threads that specify if you need any even if you are using distilled water. Thanks guys.

i always start with a very mild nute soloution so as soon as the seed pops there are nutes there ready d/w/c besat way to go m8

I think ill wait a few days after they pop out of the soil and then add a VERY light amount of nutes. Like 5% of recommended dose. That way i know they wont get any deficiencies. I don't imagine that small amount could do any harm could it?

seedlings are not seedlings until the first set of true leaves appear, that thing coming out of the rockwool with its birth wings is called a sprout. Just water them lightly with ph'd 5.5 water, you want the rockwool to still be firm after watering, if it is muchy then you have watered too much.

Best thing to do is pour some ph'd water into a bowl and dip the bottom half of the rockwool in water really quick, that is enough water until it drys up again.

once the leaves do appear, give them 1/4 strength nuteschemical( or 1/2 organic), if you notice they need more after a few days then up the dosage, too little is better than too much

oh sorry, and by the way, depending on what soil you are using, it already has nutes in it, be careful...normally foxfarm soil already has nutes

I always wait at least a month, soil has everything needed, and the seed has enough for 2 weeks worth of life.

I'm not using soil, it is a hydroponic system and there is nothing in the rockwool as far as nutes go. I think i will do half of my plants with the very small amount of nutes a week after they get their first real leaves and the other half just water. That way i can see if there is any difference.

Even in rockwool the seed contains enough nutrients for the first few weeks of life.

seedlings love phosphorus, so im trying a low low dosage of 0-6-4 on my seedlings, 1/4 tsp and 1/4 tsp of hydrozyme per gallon

i wonder how my sprout will react

has anyone else tried using phosphorus on their seedlings?
