Do I need a reservoir?

dunno about small man, I see 6 there in yours? Thats gonna pop like popcorn soon enough :p. This was my first ever attempt, used soil and did 6. Filled a 10ft x10 area, smallest one was 6'8" in the end...let em get a bit big. Went on vacation the week I needed to flip them for 2 weeks....was bad timing, luckily I have a good ceiling in that room. Like I mentioned earlier though, flowered under only CFL and didn't have anywhere near enough lumens for their size. Learning exp though, this hydro is my 2nd attempt, didn't really wana deal with all that dirt again.

Ive never done an actual "exhaust" I just either open the door or close it base on temps. (usually closing at night to retain heat, open all day) but with this HPS I wonder if a normal sized box fan suspended with chains from the cieleing bowing down the bulb, having it lined up with the door like in the previous images would be enough. The basement is rather cold, usually around 66 right now, and going into winter near 45. I would think that would disperse enough heat?

was drilling holes then realized if i just tied them off, you could slide everything to support the dense top and add what you need to get the outer as it goes. Saved time too.

Yes that should work. Try it, if not worried about room open to house, temps should be ok. Does the house not get kind of skunky lol. And yes if i veg any longer the plants get out of hand. Scrog will be my next project but need to get this one in quick, its been a long summer. Lol. Again you did well with CFL's. T5's are great if no HPS as well, i use them for al veg and have used them for flower in the past. I hear you re: dirt, its way easier with hydro IMO. I spent the first few grows waiting for the whole crop to drop dead though lol. Now i just add the same stuff every week and watch it grow! I gotta start cloning the best of the best though as there is always a couple of runts in the pack, and pheno's can be a bitch re height.

I have a long stair case dividing the basement from the main level and rest of the house. Used a bunch of cheap one side stick foam and sealed that door. The hallway actually ends in the door to my garage, so when im home and it feels muggy or high smell, I just open the house door and keep the garage shut :)

A little cloner tub is my next step. Did 7 clones from those 6 in soil to test my hand at that last time and had great success sticking the right in dirt so seems easy enough with a small bubble tub.IMG_20131003_215109_994.jpg

I have great success with rooting it just seems like they are runted compared to the seeds I grow. I am going to try a couple of these girls.

Got my hands on x2 250w MH ballasts for free. Thinking of possibly adding them in for veg once I get them cleaned up and re wired.

is there a such thing as too cold of air to vent a HPS hood with? After doing a test run with the HPS down there I was getting up to 93 degrees stable easy, so I setup a window in the room for a 6" fan port hole, but my concern is that if I pull air into the hood with that it is only 8-12" away from where my hood is hanging but in the coming winter temps can get near 0, that could be pulling some frosty air right over a hot bulb...sounds like an explosion waiting to happen?

Id rather not vent out of the window due to steam and other concerns, I can vent this entire room to my garage which is safer to distribute heat and smell. Thanks for input!

Going to flower these clones from each plant. All 3 where bag seed, rather find out now if they are girls. :) I suppose I will just need to test it, make the air coming in coil around possibly before entering the lamp.

Day 38, little nervous how large these will get as I am leaving the 20th for a week and am waiting to flip 12/12 tll I get back just so I can monitor them as they go into flower and my 1000w is gonna bring temps up and could take some adjusting at first. :/ gonna have damn shrubbery when I get home!

Trying my hand at extreme LST on the soil one. Doing a circular pattern that has main shoot winding around the bucket.

Day 43 I was curious to what ones thoughts would be on ppm at this stage. I have been seeing some threads where people are running 1100+ PPM for a single plant that is only close to the height of my little guy on the right. I am running about 760 in this system (both buckets are connected). Seems like I could amp up my juice a bit? Guess I am just scared newb don't really want to burn them and so have been leaning to the side of caution but I wana make sure I give them much as they need going into flowering here soon. I know the meter you use to measure will affect your readings making other ppls not directly relatable but for the size what does some exp guys feel?IMG_20131013_182926_496.jpgIMG_20131013_183024_548.jpgLeft one's like a damn shrub lol

Lets say I have a cooltube for my 1000w, might light will only need about 4-5ft of ducting from the outside vent where I will pull air from to the cooltube. Curious what people think about just using a cheap booster fan between the intake and cooltube, due to cold month temps ahead I may only be pulling 240CFM but my air coming in will average between 25-40 degrees, my thinking is I don't need near as much fan power due to distance and air temp being pushed across the bulb? I am not worried about smell as it is vented to an area that wont be a factor and wont hinder the exhaust end. Think I could get away with that? Maybe a booster fan at the end of the duct run as well, would get a good push across the bulb then a nice boost out the end.
