Do fans hurt your plants?

I'm curious if you think thats can hurt your plants, I normally just have a little bit blowing on them until they get bigger and keep doing more, sometimes though I don't blow directly on it, and then for a day I'll put direct fan on it to make it stronger, but do you think it ever slows down growth, and don't you think making it very strong even if it doesn't grow much is good or would just not really using any fan and scrogging be just as effective?

Someone mentioned wind burn I've never seen it or heard of it, but I do know i've had some plants in previous grows were a fan was directly on it and it seemed to not grow very much maybe it was just getting stronger

Ive noticed that too. some of the frostiest nugs are the one's closest to the fans, But you just need to watch your temps and humidity with fans blowing all the time. You can start developing bud rot if the temps drop too low and the humidity is high enough.

You should watch for bud rot if temps are low and humidity high anyways.

I'm not sure how the fan would make a difference. On the one hand it could help dry the bud to prevent rot, on the other it could spread spores.

just get a bit more uv in your light spectrum or blast them with a uvc lamp for 1min to 15 mins per day, that`ll kill a lot of the spores if you have any

I tried running very low temps on a grow for a while I hoping the colder temps would lead to better tasting bud, but it seems that cool nights late in flower is all you really need

Yeah more airflow normally means better bud

but I`ve seen a fan`s force damage a plant or they grow into it and get hit by the blades

Some people get "wind" damage on their leaf but I`ve never noticed any personally

There is something called VPD vapour pressure deficit that fans can create or make worse...

If you grow in low humidity conditions...to much air movement can worsen the problem.

You know you are suffering vpd if your fan leaves start to "canoe"...curl upwards making a canoe shape in the leaf... AND if they appear wrinkled... you will also find drops of moisture on the leaves for no apparent reason.

The canoeing makes the problem look like heat stress, but if that comes with the moisture drops and the wrinkled leaves then you know its vpd.

Solution is to up your humidity or simple turn down the fans...

All it is... is the air movement is too much and the plant is transpiring too hard for low humidity conditions....

Ive had to fight through this a couple times to dial in my room set up

I'm in a dry climate. If I blow directly on leaves too strongly, too long, sativa leaves will crinkle and taco. Indica leaves will buckle, be irregular. I'm growing one now that suffered a little. The fan wasn't even blowing directly on it, just bouncing off a wall (even on a slower speed!).

The proper solution for me is to use a humidifier. I squeak by without it, but i have to be careful with wind.

I've had that happen to me. When started young with wind and they do that they grow out of it.

What's your grow room rh?

20-22% I spread out a wet towel when I think of it.

It happens when their large plants too (tacoing, stressed looking).

what about intake and outtake fans, I'm currently vegging and have a small cheap duct fan running every 2-3 hours for 30 mins I don't have a outtake I figure my furnace and leaks will exhaust it should I put one in? also how do you know how often to run it?

4" inline at about 120cfm for exhaust to outside
6" inline fan at about 240 ish cfm for intake of fresh outside air into the room
Put them on the same timer for 15 mins every hour for a 5x9 space

Works great.
