DNA Sharksbreath grow in Hempy Buckets

Last night I took down the frosty "runt"...this is one that didn't make the final pick and lived in a solo cup all through the 30 day veg. I felt sorry for it and on day of flip, I raced it into a 5 qt. utility pale from Walmart instead of my normal 2gal buckets. It fit nicely between the two "beauties" so why not try and grow it out. Due to crowding I just kept removing side branches and let the main cola take center stage in the tent. It's definitely a frostier rock solid nug maker pheno as is one of the other two coming down today.

Here are some of the "spears" I trimmed today.....I like hanging them in cola form for a day or 2 before singulating the individual nug's from them...helps keep the full round shape of each nug. I have a hanging dryer that will put a flat spot on them in a hurry. BTW, the smell comes way up during trim..."lemony sweet" for sure...using the Trim-pro for the smaller nug's produced and effervescent grapefruit "sweet tart" candy smell. Getting a little hay smell a few hours afterwards that will dissipate as the chlorophyll's exhaust themselves. In my climate they go into jars within 4 days....dryer than Hades here.

I dry my buds for 4 days max in my arrid climate, when the outside gets crispy but with still some mass to it. Then it goes into qt size widemouth jars (1/2 full). I typically burp them daily for 2 weeks then all it set.
BTW I lit up some scissor scrapings yesterday, wow...the smoke rolled of it and kept coming...I'm looking at it wondering what the heck fueled this reaction for that long. Guess I had been trimming quite a while. Wonderfull head buzz with a billowing glow that came up from behind my face (not behind the eyes). Kindof like your soul wakes up and moves into position for a front row seat for whatever you are about to get into. Relaxing too. Great for a jumpy cat like myself.

Well things dried nicely and I've been burping jars for days with more days to come. The final weight was 7.6 oz, just under my goal of 8oz. I have to tell you though that this was the first time using a spin trimmer for the lowers and I turned a lot of small buds into stuff for the hash bin...I finally figured it out though...no big loss. Every one like bud pRon so here goes....I'll get you some shots of the roots when I break down the buckets. You will want to see this medium mix of rockwool chunks and coco.

Smoke report: With these tops being somewhat "hairy" up to the last day, there were red pistols and fragments of sugar leaves everywhere when moving from drying rack to jars. I scraped some up and rolled a nice fat jay. After 2-3 hits, I noticed this wonderfull feeling different from other strains. The high somehow matched up with my body and my brain in the perfect mix of sensations. Can't really describe it any better than this..."I was fruit on the loom". I ate without incredible munchies on a work night, felt like I was on tranquilizers when i woke up a 3AM for pee, then woke at 5:00am feeling like a new person. The taste was sweet/sour/fruity...no problems there either, but I remember the next morning thinking "did that fruit-of-the loom trip really happen? Going back in for more boys and girls!

Looking back on the bud shots it kind-of looks like a perfect mix of red & greens for a Xmas present.....similar to Barney's Farm "Red Dragon". I have some seeds of that too....hmm.
Who-kie the trimmer is yet to be proven out....the best part is the smell of fruity buds getting ripped to smithereens at high speed.....hadn't smelled that with scissors before.

lLOL, I love the fruit on the loom, hubby used to say it was good when I was quiet, a busy buzz was not what he wanted me to have most of the time. He said I thought too much and my mind never turned off...so if I was quiet, at least I was buzzed enough to not talk

BTW wouldn't the trimmer remove the red hairs? I thought they were good?

Oh yeah I have purple on 2 of my plants and on the cheese plants, is that good or bad?

Purps are good Who-kie......
Broke down the 2 g buckets today to see the root system....they still looked alive (scarry). Nevertheless the roots did look healthy and occupied the res as well as the coco. I've had coco hempy's with perlite reservoirs show lots of roots in the coco but not in the perlite. All perlite growers don't have this issue. Here the 3/4" rockwool growchunks worked well to make a seamless transition for the roots moving into the reservoir. The water hungry rockwool left me no overflow out the side hole as with the perlite res versions. One myth dispelled here....overflow is not needed as a continual flush of the res. I run my buckets till light, the plants take everything so there is no bacterial root rot occurring. I few beneficial microbes work for me too. (shiiiish...a pinch of Piranha goes in at transplant to start the colony).

LOL Jela, I did find out Purple as good, it was a shame to have been alone, It was fun. The cheese so far has been the best I have grown, so I may try that again soon.

I'm amazed at that Rockwool, have u tried with hydrotron?

Haven't tried a res with hydroton, have seen it used though....gues I was more interested in something the roots could penetrate and anchor in, since perlite reservoirs with coco showed little root activity in the res. Looks like I got what I wanted. It's really a strange thing....an all perlite hempy gets roots in the res....but with coco up top, the roots just stay primarily in the coco, happy with the water/air mixture. I wanted to utilize the hole bucket for root activity since these are only 2g and the plants get pretty large in them.

Not sure yet how you got the roots to stay in the coco. I have had to pull a couple plants that I started in the 2L coco top and perlite res, my roots went through the perlite. I am liking the fact that I don't have to water/feed everyday with it and it allows me to go 3 days between. When time comes I'm going to have to find away to get rid of the root matter, but that's not for a couple months.

Hi TX! Watts and I both have had this happen and we think it's only related to larger buckets. The 2L hempy's are very narrow in comparison and the roots have no choice but to take the "deep dive". Same with solo cups used for starting plants...they always have roots in res no matter what medium.

AWESOME grow my friend! :)

That arm cola was hella cool! It reminded me of my Mandala #1 from last year. I took a pic of my (pregnant) girl holding it in the bed and it is just epic ;) I'm banned from showing it though hehehe

Thanks Clink! My Skywalker OG is just about ready for cloning...I see 4 branches I could take this weekend and 4 I could take next weekend. I'll let you know how well it takes to cloning. Just love the stature and bushiness of yours!

Hey man not sure if you'll read this but I stumbled upon your thread and was really really impressed. I'm currently on my first ever grow and about to switch to flowering. I laughed to myself when you mentioned using the shot glass mixing up the nutes and how it is a messy job, I am currently doing this every 2 days or so for the time being until I come up with a more efficient setup :( anyway man if you read this and you have time to stop past and have a look at my thread it would be awesome. Any tips/tricks would be much appreciated

As you will see I'm also using a hempy (100% perlite however) and using canna nutes and also doing a scrog!
