Go ahead and school us about it haha... Sorry I was heated when I read that. It is his passion. I can see the "Over-engineering" dialog churning in your head. He actually only had a few finished lights to go around. He wanted to sell them so that he could offer a cheaper production model for the hobbyist. He doesn't have a lot of money. This was 6 years of basement work in the making. He had a pretty terrible disorder, which made normal eating habits and regular grocery store veggies unfeasible. So the lights were engineered over the years based on his needs. Now he needs to scratch some capital together so he can put some competitive prototypes together. His light recipe is stellar. I've seen the #s, but like I've said before, its all talk until the bud ends up in the jar... So we'll see.
apache tech is still in business selling $2300 fixtures. This Chil LEd is in the price ball park of the Kind X5 1000 ($1695). Both companies manage to stay competitive enough to stay in business...
I was going for a much softer approach haha, I deleted a few replies.. but Vitaly is looking at lowering the price point. There is a 4x2 based on my DIY that he put together. There are also other brilliant ideas that he has which are out of my depth... but nonetheless... over-engineered they are not..

I never doubted your knowledge. However, there were a few assumptions made on your part based on what you've seen. His lights aren't in "mass production". We've discussed design for hours, and he is coming up with some really affordable stuff that will really impress guys with your type of knowledge. I can promise you that. Not everyone wants exhaust manifolds that are reversible. Not everyone needs water cooling options embedded in the heat sinks. This is why there will just be a basic axial fan cooling model for the hobbyist grower and others. It takes time to build the capital to invest in the labor, inventory, etc... to just build a proto.. Ya know what I mean? I hope we can keep the comments Kosher and respectful. Savvy?
I commented on what I saw. Nothing more, nothing less. I have only seen his video, so I'm completely unaware of any of the rest of his back story.

Does he have a light recipe that will truly replace a 1K hps a 600W or less?
I don't think anything can replace the initial cost of a decent hps... However, put a meter under a Gavita DE and yea... it gets beat @ a lower consumption. So its a loaded question really. Versatility... Yup, we all know a better spread comes from multiple sources... not single source lighting. Any CXB3590 diy with a proper spacing across a 4x4 will provide better numbers than a decent single ended hps fixture over the same space. If I take 4x36" heatsinks and lined them with a proper COB over a 4x4... it will give me a better result than an hps bulb. So its up to the growers values... Is he interested in initial cost? Efficiency? Spread? Long-term savings? Growers house ran a test on gravitas high end fixture. I believe it maxes out @ 1150w. Vitaly's 650w fixture saw similar ppfd...Too many variables to count though. So it doesn't matter until we get real weed in a damned jar haha.

That is a NICE CoB. I could see mixing two of those with two cxb3590's for a nice color spectrum cover. the cost seems close to a CoB purchase at $68 each Color CoB, with a cxb costing around $45-65 each. Real nice. like it. Wish I saw you before i finished all my lights. peace
