hey folks,

I’m about to order some more lights and Im stuck on either getting 630W cmh or some quality diy leds.

My budget is 600$ CAD would anyone be able to suggest a decent build or where to start for quality lights? They are for a 39x39x72 tent

I say source your own parts from digi key.

I ordered 9 strips and a Meanwell driver. Perfect for a 3x3 and I only paid $200.

If you want more strips you could go 15-20 strips, bigger driver than what I went and you’ll fall in around $400-$500 for a crazy led set up. Digikey is free shipping as well on orders over $100.

Buy bridgelux eb Gen 2 strips. They are $10 for one. They are 2 foot long strips. Get a bunch of those.

much soldering required or do they have pre-done tips? (doubtful at this price) Sorry all my LED experience comes from building cabinets and computers.

You don’t solder anything.
So you're telling me DIY grow lights can be built solely by pluging shit together? Why doesn't everyone make them.

Also do you throw any cobs in with your strips or just a bunch of strips?

Just strips. No cobs. And I don’t know why people don’t make them. Basically you build your own HLG kit. Instead of boards, you run strips. The wires just plug right in to the connectors on the board. You need to use connectors for the wires. But that’s not soldering. That’s crimping and heat shrinking. Or use wagos.

First decide on how many strips you want to run. If you want to run 9 like me, an HLG 185-c1050a will work perfectly. And that build is just under $200. However I’m putting it in a 3x3 flower tent. So if you want more strips, you need a bigger driver.

My strips are 700ma and the driver is 1050ma which is perfect. My max voltage is 190. My driver is 200 watt. And my strips combined is 175 voltage. So max my driver will run.

I'm looking to run a 3x3 flower tent as well. Have you already started using yours?
