Stock out of the gate a 600hps is 42% efficient...very hard to beat. Running more cxa's soft is how to compete with it. Not less harder. Lumen depreciation is better on 600's than 1000's too. But even a little use time would even them out with the cxa's pretty quickly.

I would love to know if a cxa could take that much current and live a decent life without any hiccups.
You could use the hlg120-42v. With the 42v you will be maxing voltage but still less than 42 even at low ambients down to ~10c...but getting the most out of the drivers efficiency. Plus it will get you to 2.9a and possible a little more for the cxa.

That bulb claims 130000 lumens or 130lm/W when brand new. In terms of total radiant power in the 380-800nm range, it is 37% efficient. But in the 400-700nm range, LER would be 390 and the lamp is only 33% efficient.

Awesome reply Supra, thanks. Im running hps's that are like atleast 4 years old. Im guessing they are atleast down to 85% of the brand new output by now, if not less. Very interested to try some 40-50% efficicient cobs, on a big scale ;)

How many Cobs need to be used to have the same or better of a 1000w hps efficient?

And wich ones will you use and what drivers?

More some reassurance.
I have a driver capable of driving 4 cobs. Each cob draws more than enough voltage alone.
I really wanna put some switches on three of the four ^^
The driver will still be under a load (until switched off at the wall at least)
This is how the sgs 160 reds are switched i gather?
(or it seemed when I changed the driver)

Hi Supra, they have been wired in parellel but I will do it that way. I was thinking of just running a single cxa/ same current (700mA 3070's) for seedlings and clones- in a separate cabinet.. section, off the same driver.. on a switch
(the driver 215v max will handle at least 5 cobs @ .7a)

i'm thinking that even this clone cob would be ok on the driver itself just lit if needed, (21v minimum)

Yes with COBs in series you can us a switch to "bypass" part of the string. So when the swicth is open all four COBs will be lit and when the switch is closed only 1 COB lit.
I'm wondering what would happen if you switched from 4 to 1 while power on. Don't think the CXA would like it.

Amazing selection, comprehensive data sheets, certifications...certainly looks promising.

I don't know what to think about the similarity with MW drivers. Are they just copycats? But they offer some drivers MW doesn't...don't know.

Anyway, I've emailed them and hopefully they'll get back to me.

I used this driver but fair warning, it has just barely enough Vf range for CXA3070. Could be a problem during cold starts if your CXA happens to be an outlier with high Vf. Should work great with Vero29 though.

has anyone tried the model Meanwell LPC150-3150 combined with one CXA3070?
it's 24V ~ 48V....
hold up the CXA until 3150mA?
What could I expect from this combination?

p.s:I get the HLG-120H-42B to test with CXA and Vero29....2 week to receive....

I am a newbie trying to understand how to build my own DIY LED COB light. I appreciate all the help I have found at this site, particularly from SupraSPL. The more I read the more I slowly start to understand the terminology. I would like to build a CREE CXA3070 or CXA3590 light at some point, but I still do not have a handle on the binning concept.

I found some cheap chips on Amazon:
