The better drivers like meanwell don't put off much heat. Especially when mounted on a heatsink with fans running. There are situations where cobs and drivers may heat up a lot dependant on how you build it. But if you follow supras advice in the heatsink thread you should be good.

I believe supra bought and tested cxas from a particular ali seller and they were legit.

K you guys are awesome! I found the Ali carrier seems legit enough(fingers crossed) lol. My fingers itching I might just pull the trigger on that. Said he has ab's sometimes and z4s usually and to email him to see what's in stock. I'll check back here if and when I order in the next day or so to let everybody know if he has the ab's. Just incase ppl want to jump on that.

Really has anybody got them? Are they legit? I always thought that Ali was real iffy when dealing with electronics. However I've no actual experience with them. Also how long is wait on shipping? Got my next cycle coming up in about 4 weeks
See what I wrote above, they are fine. Shipping was actually pretty good....from China. If they are still offering more in a few weeks, I am going to pick a few more up, finally!

Need a little help.

I dont have enough drivers to run my cob on low amps, so I cant test this myself.

How low can you drive the 3070. The dimmable drivers go down to about 240ma. Is that usable or even lower.
I ask this in relation to the flowering room. To make it clear where I am coming from lets say you use 1 x 1400ma cob in a 30cm x 30cm ( 1sqft ) flower room. It makes sense that you can run 4 x 350ma cobs in the same space and get a better result ( I think ). Since you should also be running more efficent also, could you not reduce the amps used by the 4 cobs to maybe 300 and save a few watts. And if that logic is sound then what if I wanted to cover the 1 sqft with an array of 9 cobs running 180ma or lower.

So basicly whats the lowest amps I could use and if I am talking crazy how could I try to reduce the existing 25-35w per sqft usage during flowering. Is it possible to get it closer to 15-20w.

39$ dollars is very tempting :) i can't find anywhere in his listing part number where it says Z4 or AB
And his feedbacks is mixing ,some of the feedback says ( on russian ) his diodes is weak .How you can be sure he is legit ? Did anyone bought from this company ?

The link I provided I have bought from....they were AB's. Right now, they are supposedly Z4's which are still really good, but the Vero 29 is basically as efficient when ran below 1.4 amps.

Cree's have just been on a funky pattern of availability for a while now....[in small to single unit quantities]

Hey can't seem to find any info on these builds and grounding? Anybody doing this it seems like it needs it or am I wrong? I'm only seeing hot and neutral on these builds?

what about cxa 3590 ? i thought they better than 3070 ?

I wouldn't say better, at least not what is currently available, just different.

The 3590 can emit more light overall than the 3070, but usually not as efficiently. Not a bad choice by any means....

Also, even though high voltage drivers are becoming more available for the 3590, they still are relatively expensive compared to driving the 3070 :peace:

Yes it would be possible to run a lot lower than 35W/ft² if we crank the efficiency, and the method you described would definitely do that along with better coverage and less light lost to scatter. There are cheap 300mA drivers that are 89% efficient with 150V max Vf. There are 120, 150 and 180mA drivers that can do 88% efficiency very cheaply. Or you could use a Mean Well HLG-185H-C350 and run a long string dimmed down to as low as 35mA.

The downside though, increased complexity of the build, increased up front cost and I suspect less "reach" into the canopy. For example, at 1400mA, the CXA3070 AB cost about $1.86/PAR W, at 700mA it is $3.40, at 350mA $6.46, at 300mA, $7.41. That is as low as my data goes, but I estimate that at 150mA it is about $15/PAR W and 62% efficient, 5W each (200lm/W).

The CXA3590 3000K CB bin could take that idea even further, maybe to 65% at 100mA (6.5W) for $15/PAR W.

Rather than experiment at that level in the flower room I have been experimenting in the veg room, running CXA3590 5000K at 280mA, or about 63% efficient. I plan to try running them passive cooled at 200mA or 67% efficient (217lm/W). It will be dimmable from 35mA to 350mA. No practical reason to do it, just curiosity and extra parts to play with. So far it is working very well but I would like to see what they are really capable of at $15/PAR W. I guess that would be very useful to keep your ladies in veg mode during an extended power outage or in a solar powered grow.
