DIY Inline fan fix for bad/noisy bearings.

Sorry wasnt being specific, I am using Hi-Temp lithium formulated for high speed bearings its still able to run through a needle.

Cheap chinese junk...but I guess they will do considering the fan is too....no offence.

Personally, I think going the extra mile is quite noble and very valuable over the long run... Even just for the experience.

Why spend 100$ buying a new one, when you know its a simple fix thats only going to cost maybe 10$. Everything is chinese so it dont hurt my feelings, the bearings are made in singapore, and these 608zs are actually very durable considering their size and rpm ratings.

When you go to press the new bearings on, make sure you apply the force to the inner race. Otherwise you just fucked your new bearings.

They're helping people on a strict budget or people that want to learn something that can be applied outside of growing fans. Did you know the needle trick. You're knocking them for it.

There's a difference between fixing something and putting a bandaid on something.

Oiling a bearing would fall into the bandaid category...sorry if I sound like a dick, just being honest.

They've already stated that they've ordered new bearings. There's the fix.

At any rate, I see it like this: Some hydro and air pumps have a very similar design in their sealed bearings. That needle trick alone may save somebody's grow if they're equipment starts to fail. Even if it's only a 6 hr fix, that's long enough to save those plants and run to the hydro store.

It's not just about this instance. There are a lot of applications for this type of endeavor. Ingenuity is what growing, and life in general, are about.

I just don't think knocking OP, their equipment, or their ingenuity is beneficial to anyone or anything.

I'm not knocking anyone. And yes sometimes a bandaid will do. Just dont call a bandaid a fix.

Nobody did.

I come from a family of mechanics so oil/grease are essentially the same thing cause we all know what actually needs oil and what actually needs grease. Damn redneck family.

Took my other one apart, cleaned and greased it, definitely a lot quieter. its only about 2 years old. Wasnt even this quite out of the box. Now to wait for UPS man so I can fix the other one. Definitely would recommend doing this once a year maybe to keep it maintained I dont think these fans would ever die as long as they are kept clean. not much to these fans. Only thing to fail is the bearings, maybe the capacitor but thats 5$. Cheers guys big money saver not having to buy a new one. Cleaning up the newer one only took about a half hour to finish.

The illustrated teardown and supplied part number made this repair an absolute breeze! Fixed my $90 fan for about $2... I agree, this is something that should be set up as a scheduled maintenance thing... Ill be keeping half a dozen bearings and a pair of capacitors on hand from now on... Heartbreaking to think of the 2-3 fans I have tossed out over the years......
