DIY DWC set up

This is entirely wrong, I have grown very very successfully as many as 36 plants in a single res, with great results. Given this was current culture not dwc, but it can be done.
/sigh This is why I don't post The Truth anymore.. someone comes in and tells me it's "entirely wrong." You want see what happens to a bunch of plants in a single rez? Search mastiff in DWC section. (I did it for you here's the link: https://www.rollitup.org/dwc-bubbleponics/457849-dwc-bubbleponics-top-feed-6-a.html)

Please don't come into my section and tell me I'm wrong. Keep your OPINION to yourself.

I have to agree with everyone else. This is a consistent problem with first time DWC. Lots of plants and very little water volume. I would go five gallon or 4 gallon square buckets. you can find the 4 gallon food grade buckets on CL for like $1 each.

the other thing to think about is that not only will the roots become very crowded but you water chemistry will be extremely fluctuating as the total volume of water compared to what the plants are uptaking is going to be very small. Meaning that your going to be messing with your PH and adding more water, adjusting ppm almost every day. Phuck that Holmes.

If I were you I would figure out a way to do individual buckets that are all connected to a single bucket (control bucket it is often referred as) so that you can fill and empty all your buckets without messing with the lids or plants. you can also adjust all the nutrient and ph levels at once.

If you connect your buckets or totes together with some 1/2" line to an empty tote..physics will tell you that the water level in all the buckets is the same. So you have a large tote or barrel that you mix your nutes in then just use a small aquarium pump and hose to empty the barrel into your control bucket..thereby filling all the buckets in your system. When you want to adjust something, just drop the aquarium pump into your control bucket and empty all the nutrients back into the barrel. Add water, adjust things, then fill everything back up again.

All this may be a little complex for the grow space that you have but hopefully you get the idea in terms of how to get the water in and out of your containers without having to mess with the plants.

Your section? Didn't realize RIU was selling sections now! Heres just a couple pics that shows that a single res will clearly never work. And if you had helped this guy who was in "your section" i wouldn't have had to, so i apologize for polluting "your section" with my "opinion" since i clearly have never grown more than one plant in a res.

Word. It seems that grower skill and how people interact with the public have very little to do with the decision on who is a mod.

But yeah I get it, there are as many or more douche bag posters or people that ask questions and then dont listen as there are knowledgable growers.

I just wanted to say that I'm a total newb who started with a 6 site bubbleponic set up with an irrigation hub from Stealth Hydro - I did this for one grow and immediately ditched the multi-site single res, along with the hub, and now I grow with ease and happiness is 5gal independent reservoirs - best decision I made. Peace.

How come you ditched the single Rez? God I live mine, it's just plain easy. But then again it limits me to one or two strains of the same age but that is no big deal to me. I veg independently and flower all at once

Unfortunately, even if you took 2 clones from one mother, they can (can, not necessarily will) react differently to res conditions, and I found that when one plant had a root issue, I was suddenly treating all 6 for the issue, and they each would also react differently to the treatment causing visible stress conditions in the leaves, so I treated for that...etcetera! Independent buckets means independent issues and pinpointed cures. No intention of steering anyone wrong - you have success with multi-plant reservoirs, then plenty of newbs would love your hints.

Hmmm. So you learned all that with one single grow with a central Rez? Can you be more specific about what root issues you had and how the plants reacted differently? Sounds like you had a case of the slime. Can't think what else besides microbes and maybe bugs would be passed from plant to plant.

You should check out the beneficial tea DWC thread. The days of dumping h2o2, bleach, or zone (chloramine) into your dwc water are over!! Plus you don't really have to worry about temperature.

For me, I've got 12 monster plants in dwc. They are drinking upwards of 15 gallons a day. I could not possibly stay on top of them going bucket by bucket. Plus a central system allows me to do a scrog. Something you couldn't do if you have to lift the plants.
It's all good though. My mothers are in separate 4gallon buckets

Well, as I don't sell, donate, or otherwise need large amounts of medication, I don't have an issue with my maintenance, and if you look at this dude's thread, neither is he. But again, if you have all the knowledge, then give it to this guy, don't sell me on your incredible intelligence.

I dont really why your taking offense to my question. It was a legitimate question. When done properly there shouldn't be diseases that just spread to all your plants. So obviously you fucked up somewhere along the line, but yeah, I won't "sell you my intelligence". You just keep on keeping on.

Yo Fyk let the disbelievers disbelieve. It's not up to us to shove The Truth down their throats.

You can only lead a noob to water.. can't make him grow it in ;)

well as the op i just wanna say i didnt just go cut it 6 plants into one res while everyone was saying it wont work lol. my plan would be suing 3.5 gal buckets and keeping the plants pretty short. would 3.5 still not be enough even for a plant 3 feet or shorter?
i like the idea of a central res and pumping it into the rest of the system, seems like a simple idea to me with a little work. Ill keep updated as too how i do this cuz i have plans to remake my grow area entirely so i can have enough space for something like this. and thank you everyone for input and advice its all read and considered.

No you do not have to veg for any specific length of time, but you do want to make sure your clones have roots, after that you can experiment to see what size you like most. Pay attention to who you are taking the advice from, some of us have dozens of grows under our belts, others of us are on our 2nd grow........ Take all advice on here with a grain of salt, but look into who is giving you the info.

would i really need 2 months of vegging tho?
The longer you veg the bigger your plant, the bigger your yield.

Btw I have over three years and over ten grows under my belt. This isn't even my second DWC grow, I'm past that. It just happens to be the second with the same equipment.
