Hi guys i been researching this for about 6 months now and im getting ready to pull the trigger and do my own build for a 8 x 4 tent using cobs. Was wondering if there is any one here who has done a project with a big light like this and would be willing to help walk a fellow grower out along the way. Or offer any advise

Yes, yes and yes, fire away, i'll see if I can help point you towards the right choices, I'm pretty sure there will be more too! Does a 6kw cob rig count as 'a big light like this' enuff?

I concur with VG's recomendation of vero's but @ 500 bucks sod that, in the uk i manage around 75p a watt in parts if yer in the us you have far more choice of discount suppliers. Vero 29's are best bang for your buck currently @ £27 each with shipping and I pay around £30 for a heatsink section capable of taking 3-4 cobs depending on how hard they are being driven, so my regular setup would be 3 vero 29's to a heatsink, 2 heatsinks to a unit, 2 drivers per unit. 6x pc case fans, I build those here for around £500 @ 600w(ish) per unit.
Is the most recent vid I have up, I've just shipped a single bar version of that but not edited the build vid just yet, that vid features the older gen 6 vero's

For that size, I'd build four inline lamps that can be used for other applications. But that's just me. Yeah, it'll add to the cost but in my view, the idea of one lamp to cover that area is too large and heavy. Then, you're stuck with that size. I'd be concerned about it falling and hanging it would be a problem. There are several places to buy now, thankfully. TastyLED, already suggested, Timber, CobKits, RapidLED and others.

all these are good ideas IMHO: Im changing over to a mix of tasty CXB's@3500k and HLG's QB's@3000k

im going to have the HLG's down the middle, and hang the tasty bars on the side of them.

I dunno if tasty makes bars still, in the CXB, I think he refined the soluton for a bit better efficiency, but mine work well enough.

so yeah I would take a look at HLG along with the mentioned list.
