Hi I posted this same thing in the California and Colorado section and wanted to see how Oregon compares,

I am a disabled Gulf War Vet on social security and VA disability with leukemia and some other issues related to the gulf war.
I am looking for a nice quite place in preferably within an hour's drive of a VA hospital.
So I am guessing somewhere around Portland I have to have access to a VA oncologist on a regular basis so no more than a hour's drive away from the VA hospital.

I only make $1700 a month so I would need to grow my own I am thinking I am not sure how much it costs to buy.
I wanted to find the most
marijuana friendly place in that area.
I would like to do an indoor grow and am hoping there are possibly places up there I could rent that would be ok with that.
I am currently on lots of pain meds morphine, oxy, anti depressants, clonazpam, Chemotherapy that is permanent if you stop the chemo the cancer comes back and you die so that means sick forever.

Anyways that's my situation and I am hoping some people can give me some good information on possible places to live or where and how to find someone to rent from that is ok with all this.

The main thing here is I need to be within an hour's drive of a VA hospital and be able to live off that 1700 a month that's all I get on all my disabilities.

Also does Oregon have dispensaries it looked like it did not when I was searching.

Anyways I have got tons of useful information off these boards and any help and information is greatly appreciated.

You should be good with that in Oregon. Especially if you have a roomie. We have dispensaries, but they are not completely legal. It is a grey area here. That may change however come Novemeber. We got it passed to be put on the ballot for completely legal for everyone over 21. Hope this info helps.

Man that sucks that US dont do much for our veterans. Id make sure these dudes had a cold million each when they got back stae side if i was pres. Instead of helping out their money buddies, they could use that money to better the services our veterans need

I feel like I got it pretty good here in Oregon as a disabled vet. I've been rated at 100% for about 3 years now.

I go to the VA adjacent clinic in Salem, it's nice and the docs there are great. The Portland VA is more than willing to give out referrals to other hospitals if you live in a rural area. Last year I got a root canal done at my local dentist with no hastle. Been seeing a local psych here too.

The Portland VA understands that it can be difficult to commute around Oregon and that there aren't that many places for vets to go.

I grow a lot of pot here too, so that's fun. The VA doc knows I smoke and that I am a OMMP patient/grower. Not a big deal.

Anyway, look just outside of Salem. You can find some cheap places to rent and finding someone that would be cool with you growing wont take long.

Edit:

I know there are a couple shops in Salem, and I think a delivery service.

Cool just what I am looking for.
Is indoor growing OK in salem and if not how much are meds going for at the Co-ops/dispensearies.
And whats a OMMP patient never heard the term before kind of new to all of this.

OMMP is just the "Oregon Medical Marijuana Program" from my understanding there aren't any city ordinances banning indoor growing in Oregon, but a landlord might get pissey.

Meds at shops are not going to be cheap, best to do it yourself if you are able.

So far I am thinking its going to be oregon or colorado I got about 6 months or less hopefully until the rest of my VA stuff is settled then I can move.
Really this is the last thing thats bringing some hope back into my life been on treament for 4 years and just so sick of the damn pills and could see no way out of them.
But the more I keep looking into the medical marijuana thing the more doable it seems to be so just going to keep gathering information and we will see what happens.
Really havent been this happy in a long time and I havent even smoked any yet lol.

I moved to Oregon from Chicago 28 years ago and have never regretted it. I use to be a nurse and I worked at the VA in Portland. I would suggest Gladstone, Milwaukie or NW Portland for places to live. I would tend to shy away from SE or NE Portland. Figure around 600,00 for rent and utilities for a one bedroom. Portland has lots of dispensaries selling top quality smoke for around 38.00 for an 8th oz. If you didn't have to be so close to the main VA hospital I would suggest you move to the coast where I am.It's beautiful and the weather doesn't get too hot or too cold. There's a VA clinic at Camp Rilea in Warrenton And there are dispensary's in Seaside and 18 miles to the north in Astoria. Landlords shouldn't be a problem as long as you are legal. Good luck, happy growing and may all of your harvests be bountiful.
ps I forgot to mention I'm a grower myself. We live in a manufactured home in a park and the on site manager knows we grow and is ok with it because we have a card. PM me if you need or want any more info.

Oregon is a great place to live. I would agree with bullwinkle about living around Milwaukie, Oak Grove, Gladstone, and even Oregon city if you need decently priced rent and to be within an hour of the VA hospital up in the Portland hills on Terwilliger blvd. My dad just spent a good deal of time staying there, he is currently afflicted with multiple myeloma, the hospital itself is great, and so are the people who work there. They took very good care of him, as I'm sure they do with all patients. And, if/when it comes time, those locations are also under an hour away from the VA hospice in Vancouver Washington, which also has great people working at it. I don't know if you're looking for a house or apt., but either way I would say that when it comes to growing your own to just hedge your bets and not tell your landlord. As long as you do things correctly there should be no chance of a fire hazard, water damage, mold, or anything else, so there is no need for them to know/care.
