Dinafem amnesia xxl Moby dick xxl

So I am growing some autos outdoors this year. Previously year I grew a crop king northern lights which I was very impressed with the end result, this year I also have a crop king white widow which will be done in a couple week (started in April).

All my plants start inside under a t5 for a couple weeks then go outside into a greenhouse once they develop the 3 or 4 true nodes. I also start them in a solo cup and transplant once which so far hasn’t been an issue. I grow in promix and use general organics 2 part liquid fertz plus cal mag.

My experience with the crop king autos is they take great to one topping above the 2nd or 3 node they split beautifully.

My question is do anyone have experience topping either dinafem amnesia or moby dick xxl? I have found they are a bit slower growing outdoors when compared to the crop king as a result I am a bit hesitant to knock them back a bit they both have at least 5 nodes now. They will be 4 weeks old on Friday pistils are starting to show up so time is running out I think.

I have two dinafem og Kush autos too which I topped and have had a slow recovery which is another reason I am hesitant.

I am surprised slightly how essentially my crop kings have out performed the dinafem so far (time will tell of course I haven’t finished a dinafem grow yet).

I will say this though out of the 6 seeds I germinated from crop king I only finished 2 plants. I germinated 12 dinafem seeds they all popped and only one didn’t make it past the seedling stage which is really good in that regard.

Any comments or experiences other people have would be greatly appreciate if you have some insight into dinafem outdoors.

I will post some pics later today.

My last grow was Dinafem's Cheese XXL, outdoors. I did not top. I recently planted another Dinafem Cheese XXL and Haze XXL, outdoors. I won't top those either.

Your instinct sounds reasonable. I've never got the size or yield compared to what I've seen here from indoor grows. I wouldn't mess with them.

Thanks for your reply Pablo it’s the exact sort of Info/experience I was looking for.

I will confess though before I read your reply I did top both of my plants I have had much success in the past doing so with the couple autos I have grown.

I have included both a photo of my amnesia xxl and the moby dick xxl.

No matter what breeder you get, they all grow slower outside rather than inside. Toping the same strain inside vs oitside will likely be very different at the same time frame. Topping works incredible indoors since plants aren't as sluggish as outside. I am not a outside or soil grower. I grow inside and in coco. Every post in this auto section about outdoors shows growers with slow growing autos. It seems to be very common with oitdoor autos. Not even sure where to begin with the reasons why. Maybe there is not 20-24 hours of light oustide compaired to inside.

I'm open to topping if I see evidence it's helpful outdoors, so I'll be watching to see how yours do. Mine are well behind yours, so I may have time to implement it if you have good results.

A few pics of Cheese XXL awhile back.

I grew it again the following year. It gets pretty tall for outdoors.

It’s almost been a week since I topped the MD and amnesia xxl they appear to be splitting nicely the secondary branches have really take off. We have had some nice weather that has helped things along as well.

Still very much different behaviour to the last two autos I grew.

Pablo your plants look great I would consider topping one within 4 weeks of life sometime just so you can experience and decide if it’s worth it for yourself. For me I like to keep height down to lower centre of gravity because I grow in 7 gallon smart pots they become top heavy late in the season(my photo periods at least).

I am very much leaning about different genetics to get the best results for my climate and growing style.

Thanks for both the replies.

I almost exclusively grow Dinafems now. You want to top your auto's early, before day 19. For outdoor grows I don't believe topping in necessary. The whole point in toping is to get an even canopy and as much light penetration to you buds as possible. If you're growing with the sun this isn't a problem.

Right on zogs thanks for your reply. Personally as I am learning about different genetics/phenotypes how they react to topping lst hst and whatnot. I have only 4 seasons under my belt and have dabbled in autos the last 2.

For my outdoor plants like I said in the previous post is that I top too keep height down so they don’t become as top heavy as I grow in 7 gal pots and they can blow over late in the season.

I also keep them in a green house at the beginning and sometimes the end of the season depending on dampness in the environment. It’s a smaller greenhouse so keeping height down accommodates them better.

How about putting a cage around them and securing that to the ground ? You could use the cage to your advantage to open up the plant as well. Sadly I've never had your problem with the buds being to heavy on top that it pulls the pot over lol.

Here is a pic from another grower that I follow. Maybe something like this would do the trick.

Very interesting indeed Pablo it looks to be bushing out. You look to being doing a lot of things right by the health and vigour they appear to have.

My garden is coming along pretty good i had hoped that these plants would be a bit larger. Might be because I transplanted them once. I had luck doing this with different genetics including a plant that is finishing right now.

It’s also interesting to note that I have 2 ogkush autos from dinafem that I started a week before the moby dick and amnesia xxl these plants have ended up much larger and are still very much in veg while the other two are in flower.

Many lessons to be learned thanks again for your input. First two images are the amnesia xxl and the moby dick xxl the second pic is the two og Kush autos.

Elkhorn, by way of update on the topped cheese XXL. I kinda like it. It's a bit stealthier. It branched out nice.

The Haze XXL is on the left, that wasn't topped.

I put 5 royal queen seeds autos outdoors after starting them indoors. They took off like weeds once I put them outdoors. If it wasn't for all the rain and snail/ slug issues I think they would have yielded like crazy. Here is the current status of my Royal Queen Seeds-Diesel. She was one of the slow starters indoors... She is in a 5 gal fabric pot and is just starting to flower. I have even read breeder descriptions stating the plants will get taller outdoors... But from what I have seen on here and online... I think the best yields are still indoors with autos. Next year I plan to top my autos once right before I put them outside. IMG_20190731_163817.jpg

Hey Pablo

So my plants are doing okay. We had some bad weather for a few weeks at the end of June and first couple weeks of July so I think that has put me back a bit. Much like wills experience I had to fight off some
Large banana slugs the first couple weeks too. Usually we won’t get anything but sun from end of June until October pretty much, this season has been different.

I sought out the xxl variety for yield but at the end of the day it’s going to produce a similar amount of bud as the regular autos I grew this spring and last season. I even have some ok Kush autos from dinafem and they are similar size.

I will chalk this up to my own experience I will do things a bit different next season that will hopefully help get a better result. I will still top my autos next year I don’t think that was the detriment to my success.

I will still get a reasonable yield of quality bud which I am happy for again the best way to become more efficient is find out what works or doesn’t work for you/location and learn from experience.

Pics go amnesia xxl, moby dick xxl(some sort of lockout has effected her) og Kush, and a critical 2.0(untopped). Also a slug at work arg!

You'll still get a decent harvest. I've never had slugs . . . maybe because I grow on a balcony. I get budworms. But, I've sprayed twice now with Monterey insect spray with spinosad. I generally lose a small portion to budworms. Maybe this year will be different.

I'm thinking about germinating another seed and take advantage of the sun. Wouldn't make sense to top this time, tho.

Well by an amazing coincident I have a Dinafem Moby Dick XXL growing at the moment and it is the very first auto that I've grown that I did not top. I repeat, did *not* top. First I should remind you that other people's experience with the fine details like this are not going to help, any auto is capable of growing in a variety of ways. For example I have three Orange Bud Autos from the same packet and they don't even look like the same strain so different are they, and even two of them are in the same hydro pot, still growing totally differently, so you should alway remember that caveat.

Having said all that I really regret not topping her, she is a fcuking monster and slow, she's like 11 weeks and only just going into flower, I have Orange Buds started three weeks later that have overtaken her. I've gone in and hacked out like armloads of branches and leaves, still she grows out of control problem is that she's been in this preflower stage for about 4 weeks. She'd better do something special because frankly this is a monumental pain in the butt.
