Im looking to add more lighting to my room and have been throwing around all options. I currently us lumatek and they are great, but expencive. Now i have found all kind of stuff out there for sale with simaler features and design with out the name and the cost. Are we just paying for the name here or is there more then meets the eye when it comes to these second rate bargins?

Anyone who techinical knowledge or has been using the brand name and second rate ballasts please tell me what your thoughts
are.

I would rather spend 200 then 300 if the product is the same, i dont need to pay for the name.

Thanks in advance!!

They're all made in China. I think the big name companies just slap their name onto the Chinese manufactured ballasts, and add a $100+ markup. Do a search for ballasts on alibaba. The only differences are the terms and reliability of the warranties.

They are not all made in China the cheap knock offs with no names are made in China. Lumatek is one of the best if not the best digial ballasts on the market today.
The cheap shit will run hotter will not be as effiecent and in all likelyhood interfere with other electronic equipment possibly even your neighbours tv, pc, etc etc...

The NextGen 600 Watt I bought the other day is made in China, but it kicks ass compared to the generic grey ballast that says Digital Ballast across the top and comes with all the package kits online. I just had one of those ones and it was dimming and doing wierd stuff. Im not a electrician, so it could have been the generic light bulb too. Either way I replaced those with the NextGen, made in China, and a Digilux HPS , got to be made there too, and I am thrilled with the results. Just a steady stream of non-flickering bright ass light.
