digital ballast

Are digital ballast worth the extra cost?

They say that they save bulb life, use less electricity, runs cooler, and a few other things... I was just wondering if anybody has owned both digital and "core and coil" ballasts, and if so was there that much difference?

Yes they are worth it. Magnetic ballasts get really hot and I have noticed longer bulb life with electronic ballasts. I also like that they are smaller and easier to place.

Thanks for saving me some heartache re the digital ballasts. I was determined to get a Lumatek, but have changed my mind.

well, I don't feel lumateks are nessasarily bad, just there are many unresolved issues with digital ballasts and bulbs and I want more people to report on this issue so we all know better. I am not the authority but between all of us we can see trends, thats all i am suggesting.

i have used lumateks ranging from 400-1000 watts and several of them. of about 19 ballasts only one failed. I wouldnt worry about bulb life if you replace them on a normal schedule
