Too much of blue output in relation to the red one.
Maybe even not enough green output ,when at high densities ( > 800 mol/sec/m^2) .

An unbalanced “burple” with a hint of green & yellow .

The R&D department behind this Sammy horti-strip ,for sure did not
have cannabis in mind .
3000•K 80Ra +660 would have been
a much better choice ..Maybe not the best , but still a very good one .

On the other side ,
it ‘s an ideal example of
how a LED strip designed for horticultural purposes ,
should be protected from heat and from quite a few of other environmental hazards .
@SDS_GR update me / us ...any list of led strips or led tubes to consider ...sir

My favorite ones are the Photo Boost ones from PLC ,Salmo.

They are very well designed and do
have the right amount of 660 red output ,a good amount of green
for hitting max densities and a
well balanced amount of blue output.

have a look at - https://www.cutter.com.au/product/ssk-1560zge-35-2835cr/ very similar to plc's photoboost but using cree's new 2835 midpower @ 224lpw.

Start your searching around here, note especially the solstrip boundry riders, version 1 and 2...

Theres also still stock of these:Screenshot_2020-05-30-19-27-24-149_com.android.chrome.jpg

I had them made custom as a vanity self present for last years birthdday (which by now feels like 10 yearss ago, preconfinement time...)
Wide blue channel, neutral white and phosphored covered reds with an extra wide fat tail, it hits 680nm at almost 80% of max intensity. I know i had photos of the spectrum uploaded in the perfect spectrum thread, if not goo and check out the led Buddies thread. Very nice but still not in use.

A good bunch off the old timers have "graduated" to proper businesses and youtube.

@SDS_GR have you heard anything from supra? He turned up and quickly disappeared, i was never close so dont know much more..

This elastic & transparent acrylic coating ,as long as is applied and cured properly ,will protect the LEDs from :
-humidity, but also from water splashes ,sprays & mist.
- various hazardous to LEDs gasses ( like oxygen ,H2S , SOx ) and atmospheric pollution.
- dust ,fibers and other airborne solid particles .
- UV radiation
- VOCs
and from few other hazards that may
develop on an unprotected pcb ,even like “tin whiskers”.

They also protect you and others from
high voltage ,if present .

All those ,coming with a negligible impact on the light output .

For uncoated -thus unprotected-LED strips IS a must-have !

For horticultural purposes acrylic or PVB coatings will do just fine .
PU conformal coatings are suggested for use in really corrosive /harsh environments .

More info:

Some more solvent-based alternatives :

Thanks for the info

So is it even worth bothering with?

If not using the pu coating I don't see why one would bother

I know the new Samsung horticulture strip has a pu coating, do you know if Bridgelux does in Thier EB strips?
