The boards cost time and money to make and the correct equipment which aint cheap.. The drivers are one of the most expensive parts too.

But yeah the QB uses those diodes although im not sure if they are 90cri like the ones you linked or 80cri.

For technical help you want to be in the LED section.
If you use the search bar you might be able to find a thread about the reals, i know there is one and tried to tag the guy who used them but seems either i have his name wrong or his account vanished..

Anyhow just repost in the LED section.

Also am I reading it right that the QB550 has 1152 diodes and costs 1,000$, but I can buy 4000 diodes for 450$? So I could theoretically make 3+ lights out of that 450$ (not including buying a driver, heatsink, etc)

Yes your correct they're the same diode that's the cheap and easy part. You can build and wire everything yourself but unless it's a passion project or you value your time at like $1/hour

The much easier route is building your own LED lights with pre assembled printed circuit boards with either samsung or bridgelux diodes.

Good news for you both manufacturers happen to make them for sale! They sell them on digi key as well.

If you arent electrically knowledgable visit growmau5's youtube channel and watch his videos on LEDs and cobs. Just remember at the end the knowledge is about COBs not strips but they're vary interchangeable once you have the concept of what you're doing.
