Politicians make promises, and then...

Maybe some of you die hard Democrats, or Republicans will try to explain this?

"Since the GOP's 2012 party platform is (understandably) in the news this week, I thought it might be helpful to remind voters what the Democrats were promising in 2008. For instance, this section on the "false choice between the liberties we cherish and the security we demand":

The Democratic Party rejects this dichotomy.

We will restore our constitutional traditions, and recover our nation's founding commitment to liberty under law.
We support constitutional protections and judicial oversight on any surveillance program involving Americans. We will review the current Administration's warrantless wiretapping program. We reject illegal wiretapping of American citizens, wherever they live. We reject the use of national security letters to spy on citizens who are not suspected of a crime. We reject the tracking of citizens who do nothing more than protest a misguided war. We reject torture. We reject sweeping claims of "inherent" presidential power. We will revisit the Patriot Act and overturn unconstitutional executive decisions issued during the past eight years. We will not use signing statements to nullify or undermine duly enacted law. [...]

We will not ship away prisoners in the dead of night to be tortured in far off countries, or detain without trial or charge prisoners who can and should be brought to justice for their crimes, or maintain a network of secret prisons to jail people beyond the reach of the law. We will respect the time-honored principle of habeas corpus, the seven century-old right of individuals to challenge the terms of their own detention that was recently reaffirmed by our Supreme Court. We will close the detention camp in Guantanamo Bay, the location of so many of the worst constitutional abuses in recent years. With these necessary changes, the attention of the world will be directed where it belongs: on what terrorists have done to us, not on how we treat suspects.

It's hard to remember now, but Democrats really did used to talk about that stuff a lot."

Yeah, I don't blame you. The Dems have been abysmal, which in no way implies the Republicans would have been better, and that is why I am voting for Gary Johnson.

Now we just let companies like Abraxas do all the spying (trapwire). The increasing authoritarianism of the Democratic party is one of the things that turned me off on them too.

With regard to torture and unlawful imprisonment, we already know what the Repubs would do, we saw it first hand.

And we have seen first hand what Dear Leader's administration will do as well.

"Throw the bums out" is really the only solution.

This might be a good place to start for solutions...

Everyone is ragging on ObaImah and I for one do not understand why. The country overall is in pretty good shape. Oh I'll admit there's people out of work but unemployment is not the President's fault. The economy is cyclical and it will bounce back regardless of who inhabits the White House. I agree with desert dude we should throw the bums out but let's make sure we have the right bums.I'm talking about congress, both the house and senate in my opinion There's where we should start cleaning house.

LOL man what the hell are you on? If you haven't seen the news lately we're more than likely to hit another recession in 2013(shrink 0.5%) and the from the CBO so it's probably worse than they're forecasting.

I'll ignore the Special Needs remark and stand by my comment that the country is in pretty good shape.

Why ignore it? Embrace it! With remarks like the economy being in good shape you will be standing alone on the island of delusion. Send post cards.....

social security has been bankrupted by the congress' sticky fingers in a vain attempt to stave off the general bankruptcy they have been paddling towards for decades with countless new programs and giveaways to every special interest that can put a few dollars in the congressional members' g-strings as they work that stripper pole in washington.

if you actually think the country is in good shape you need a hockey helmet and a stronger dose of lithium sulfate.

having grown up in the 80's and ninties when the nation was doing well, even after the small reccesion in the 80's, how exatcly can the current state be described as "going well"

,whomever and whatever is responsible is not the issue, its no one wants to fix it that is the issue,

i mean there is a big difference between the" emperors new clothers" mentality to our current economy vs the "come back wilson , cast away" economy i think we have now, just hoping for the best . . .
