Dehumidifier help

Hey all

I'm looking to get a small dehumidifier for my 70 cubic foot space. I was curious if anyone has used a dehumidifier like this before Walmart.com: WindChaser Compact Dehumidifier: Appliances

I really have no idea if the 380 ml a day it will pull out of the air (at 80% RH)
will be enough. this unit uses something called a thermo-Electric Peltier Module, so it dosent have a compressor, and it's supposedly very quiet.

so, anyone have any reviews of this or a similar item for me?

all help appreciated.

I have one piece of advice for anyone looking for a dehumidifier...

They put off a lot of heat. Be prepared for that- my temps jumped up 10 degrees in 24 hours.

well, what kind of device are you using? does yours have a big motor driving a compressor? or is it using this more passive peltier method?

yeah, that uses a compressor and motor, which I believe is responsible for the heat. this unit is much smaller, and doesnt use a compressor, so i'm hoping it will be non-hot and quiet.

I like the look of that humidifier you've found, you could try looking at this as well.
Little Gem Mini- Dehumidifier.
Perhaps a combination of the two would help in your space?
Hope this helps mate.

haha, thanks for speaking up dude!

yeah, that appears to be the third type of dehumidifier, the one with the small crystals that change color as they absorb water, then you plug them in and they release the water. bad thing about that, you have to keep taking them out of the space, recharging them and putting them back.

what I really need, is a formula to figure out how taking out (X) amount of water from the air will affect the relative humidity, so I can figure out what I need.

anyways, anyone have experience with the peltier thermal plate thing?

You could try to locate where the humidity is coming from, and prevent it without the need of a humidifier. My room has a sump pump in it. I put a trashbag over the pump, and my humidity dropped 20% in 24 hours.

i use a dehumidifyer built for 2000 sq ft, it does raise my temps up to 29 from 26 degrees celsius, runs constant and i have a 4l rez and i have to empty the thing twice a day once in the morning and once i befor i go to bed and my rh is 35 % when i empty the thing and by the time i get back to fire it up again the humidity has raised 5 % in like five mins and it takes an hour to get it back to 35% i only have 9 plants. without it my r/h is 75 % and bud mold is sure to hit the fat colas if i dont use it

hm, have you tried drilling a hole in the reservoir, attaching a hose/tube to it and draining it into a much larger container? you could avoid the auto-shut off (assuming thats what it does) when the res is full?

man, my RH is hovering around 65 with only three gourds growing in my area (i'm doing a trial run while I fine-tune my area), I cant imagine what the RH will be when i've got 10-15 plants/clones in there.

man, I really wish someone knew about the dehumidifier I mentioned in the OP, I dont want to spend 50 bucks on a piece of crap.
