Deep Water Culture

I just bought this hydro system off ebay. It was pretty inexpensive ( came to about $47.00 USD w / shipping ). This will be a first grow , what do you think of the setup? I plan on only using about 3 of the spots because I think it will crowd up. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

not bad.i have the same setup. i went from 6 plants to 3 plants to 2 and thats the winner. if you want a max yeild use 2 enough for monsterous plants.

Upgrade the pump to the 30 60 gallon.dual outlet and use two stones i use the biggest stone that will fit use all the holes so you can take the males out you wont get all females if this is your first try at hydro i would not use expensive beans use bagseeds.i started with the stealth hydro 4yrs ago and now have made a water farm.gl oh yea it is addicting and hard to stop growing and alot of fun welcome to riu.

I checked out that eBay site you mentioned.....

They have different systems available, one that has six - 3 3/4" pots, one that has eight - 3 3/4" pots and a unit that has three - 5" pots. Which one do you guys think is best for growing?

It seems that the tub that has eight small pots might become a bit crowded...

my opinion would be 10 gallon res 2 plants to get the max yeild. ive tryed 6 and 3 but the best is 2.you would get more yeild from those 2 then 6 crowded. fa sho

yeah im probably gonna stick to two plants because i dont want them crowding. it's my first time so it will be my learning curve. what could i expect for a yield? im gonna be growing kaya. they say it's an easy strain to grow but we'll see.

That looks like a damn good deal. I'm currently growing three plants in 5" net pots in a tub that size. I've topped and LSTed these guys and they are bushy as hell. I think it prolly depends on the strain and growing method, but three seems pretty crowded and I just started flowering. I'd have to agree with two in 5" net pots. If under 1000W HPS, how much you think two in a tub can yield? I'm working with four tubs at the moment and I'm curious as to what final yield will be.

Mine has 4 spots and a 5 gallon res, i cant afford a tri meter so i change the res solution every 2 weeks so far works fine but the hot temperatures are starting to mess everything i guess i should get a water chiller, you got a great deal on your sys. so enjoy.

not bad for the price. i'd play around to figure the ideal number of plants. you could do sea of green and use all the spots. that's actually what i'd suggest to maximize usage of space while preserving yield.

Should work fine.......one thing about DWC. To make them low maintenance you have to connect them to a separate Reservoir. If you don’t they will be a nightmare to service.
DWC for small operations if run correctly give phenomenal growth.

jonny when ur talking maintenence what do u mean??? do u mean to take water and and put new water right???i bought the same system it came with eco grow why didnt they give me the cut out circles to keep the light off the rocks!!!!?arg yea i just started hydro first time cuz got tired of the dam nats that would just nott goo away for reals im doing one maui wowi and one sour deisel and two shwag seeds so far they look of indica origin

how is growing in that setup? its gonna be my first grow and i didnt really know much about quality of systems i just chose it for its cost

i bought the same system and the reservoir stayed the same depth until time to change also i beleive u could easily put 8 in there and be ok its 2 ft long by 2 ft wide

my cuson has got a big mama and made some clones from it its a nice plant for sure and a sativa

I am using a similar system, with the same dimensions. I have mine connected to a separate res for easy maintenance. If you have a separate Res you can make adjustments to the water chemistry, change the nutes etc. You need to put a small water pump in the Res and connect tubing to the Res from the unit to make it work. By doing it this way you dont have to lift the plants off the base to do maintenance stuff.
I had 3 26 inch plants in it. It worked very well with excellent results.
One of the keys to this type of system is plenty of air stones.
I run mine with 4 14 inch air stones off two pumps. I also have a large circular air stone running in the res.
Keep the water temps on the cool side with proper nutrients and you should get a bumper crop.
If your planning on growing plants taller than 30 inches your going to have to come up with a staking system. A small net pot probably wont hold a tall plant upright very well.
