So I dropped four seeds into water on tuesday night and transferred them to napkin the next night and thursday when i got home from work i had myself a beautiful tarproot festival taking place before my eyes. so i put the beasts in foxfarm perlite mix in 5" pots then watered them politely, maybe 2 1/2 shot glasses worth of water a lil less. i had them under a single 14w 6500k lamp light since i didn't plan ahead but left the light on overnight and the next day(friday set out on a mission to braid my hair and get a pack of cfls. so i went ahead and got a 4 pack of 23w cfl lights and put them on y splitters and set my babies under them. they've been under 24 hour support since i only had the one 14w light thursday and they will be getting their first night cycle tomorrow night 12 midnight. a couple of rookie concerns i want to address since i'm a paranoid noob. both of the iced grapefruits have purple stems all the way to the back of the main nodes but the widows are straight green. and the second set of nodes starting popping up on the grapefruits and the edges are a light purple. i'm guessing all this is genetics but iono. i'm paranoid like a biznitch

the first two are the grapefruits i believe and the second two are the white widow.

you can't really see the last one but rest assured its taller than the other widow but the shell is stuck on its head. i feel tempted to pull it off and unblind it lol

thanks for the advice. and i feel you on the radical temp change because when i first put them in soil the napkin was cool from the water and the water was at room temperature but still felt cool to the touch. and i had them under a single lamp light that was probably 8-10 inches from the tops AT LEAST. now they have 23w lights about an inch from the tops. plus i don't have a fan in there. again lack of planning. funny thing is that i worked today and could've easily bought it but didn't think of doing so.

i have tape on the floor next to the buds to make sure i don't confuse them. but i think the genetics are going to prevail in the grapefruits and i won't even need to label them to differentiate.

i'm taking these pics from a laptop so you won't get the best resolution but my two grapefruits got burnt from being under that 24 hr schedule. was at work and they dried up while i was there and ya'll know the rest. one has a pretty bad burn on the second set of nodes and the other didn't suffer that bad because i watered in time. i'm considering taking them off the 24 hour schedule tonight because the light shines through a dozen cracks in my closet and annoys the shit outta me since my bed is right next to the light. i just don't want them to start growing to fast. i kind of forced the shell off the widow that had it stuck but its doing well now, also on its 3rd set of nodes. the widow that was sideways is upright without help but hasn't really shown big development. its on its 3rd set but the leaves are pretty small and its considerably behind the other 3 plants in terms of size.

So i decided to toss the white widow that was showing weak progress. the root looked dead and there wasn't enough development for me to want to try and nurse it. the three others are growing very well(the grapefruits too, despite the burns). i dropped a northern lights seed into water yesterday so hopefully i won't be as careless with her. the plants are now on day 10 since i popped em in the soil or 12 days since they were seeds. don't know which would be the technically correct date. they're already on their 5th and 6th sets of leaves are are growing pretty decently imo for 10 days. a lil short but i had the lights dangerously close for that reason. i want to have them at around 12-14 inches when i switch

this is the white widow plant. it looks a bit overwatered although my soil mix has maybe 20=25% perlite with happy frog so its well-aerated. i put maybe two-three shotglasses worth of water at most and there will still be a little runoff pool at the bottom from how loosened up the soil is. these are the two grapefruits. the burns are on the second set of leaves. on the first one the leaf didn't grow as long as it should've because of the burn but on the second plant the leaf grew in spite of it. Snapshot_20121006_2.JPGSnapshot_20121006_3.JPG

i'm still feeding only pure water and although i don't have a ph meter yet the soil should be within the 61-7.0 range. i've been using bottled water from gallon jugs. its been 10 days so i'm probably not even close to worrying about nutrients. maybe a week into veg so about 1 1/2 weeks from now.
