Dank supply in Colorado

I heard Colorado is getting ready to actually open recreational shops.

I wonder how supply will hold up... I realize anyone will be able to grow, but I'm talking about medical grade.

Supply should control the price.

Demand is gonna be huge, with long time non-smokers buying it for the novelty, if nothing else.

Could the rec shops put a strain on medical dispensary supply and in turn increase the price?

The next few years will be very interesting in Colorado.

I've only seen one shop be low on one thing because of upcoming rec demands, and that was clones.

The short answer is, I don't see it being an issue, epically not for med patients.

I'll give you the run down real quick. hehe... I can only speak to the Denver area BUT...

  • There are 400+ dispensaries within 30 min of my house.
  • For the first 2 years of Rec, only existing dispensaries can get a lic to sell it.
  • And I believe the vast majority do not have Rec yet(all the big boys I've asked do but that's to be expected)
  • There is a 25% cost increase due to taxes on rec vs the 5% or so on med.
  • Instate Rec can get 1oz at a time, out of state 1/4 at a time.
  • Med can get 2oz at a time, 4oz if you have extended plant but most places don't do that.
  • And last, if you think about it, its highly likely that any serious cannabis consumer that lives in the state already has their red card. I suspect rec is mostly gonna be tourist biz.

PS> I'm slightly worried about the supply of high quality bho as that is already limited but, just have to wait and see.

The supply of BHO is only limited to keep prices up. If they needed to they could blast all that popcorn nug crap they sell that nobody really wants anyway.

bhos limited because of the danger in making it. everything is medically inspected and watched like a hawk. its too expensive for most to produce with liscensing and all that hub bub associated with it at this point.

I can tell you don't work in the industry. At least not in Colorado. Medically inspected by who? Very little BHO is tested by anyone. Testing that is done is by private labs at the request of a mip or mmc. Any mmc or mip can extract provided they have the proper area as required by law.

This is why I won't be buying any dispensary BHO...

I'm not sure, but I'd say there's a chance of some unwanted chemicals getting through on a bad batch?

I'd rather just press my own hash, from kief gathered from harvest fluff/trim and dry ice in a bubble bag.

Most of it is trim. But I like the Cola and Nug Run stuff The Clinic sells.

Ummmm, Top Shelf has the Medically correct stamp. And many others are tested... Off the top of my head, PinkHouse, StayConcentrated, IVXX, whoever makes the fucking awesome Cannapunch 200mg drinks I live on(100% flower infused and lab tested). All these guys fucken oven vac FOREVER anyway, creating what I see as a different problem. The point is, I'd be more worried about your homemade shit having trace, unless your rocking crazy turbo molecular pumps and cryo freezers and walls of vac ovens.

Foggy right now but seen a few different labs' stamps on different shit, CannaLabs, rm3 or someshit, something else.

I know for a fact that any mmc that wants to "blow hash" has to purchase a MIPs liscense and they're like 25,000$ min plus the cost for all the inspects for the location and cost of equiptment to blow clean, quality hash, and with the new regulatory for the rec thats coming there will be oversight of concentrates and edibles. Alot of mmc's contract the blowers for a flat monthly fee or per lb cost and the mmc provides the trim, keif, or bud whichever they are running or they purchase the hash from the concentrate company that they have blown with their grow for 3-7$ a g and then the mmc turns around and marks it up 500%, maybe more. Hope that answers your questions on that!!!!!!!

You may be correct, but I don't think so. I believe that the gap will be so wide between the demand and supply sides for the 1st 6 months or so that prices will spike on the cost of wholesale weed being sold from the dispensaries to the recreational stores. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think recreational is able to buy wholesale from mmj shops? If I'm correct on that, I just see it dragging all prices up at least in the short term - I hope you're right though.

As far as most folks that smoke seriously in CO having red cards, I definitely disagree there man lol.

Well, maybe its just me but it seems like not having a card is like someone that skis all season not having a mountain pass, lol.

As far as supply-demand. I may have misunderstood some of what I've read about it. But as the dispensaries are the only ones that can sell recreational for 2 years, I don't see them(the good ones atleast), letting their patients suffer due to rec demand. Esp if they buy from a wholesaler. Its 15%(10%?) tax on wholesale rec, none on med.

But who knows, we shall see. I imagine it being more of a problem in other areas, not Denver or Boulder.

No doubt Bubba. Everyone keep your med card. Herb will not be better! And WILL be more expensive than your buddy down the road. Quality as far as flowers go will be far more stringently regulated.
Samples, at random for some lbs, will be tested for mold, mildew, E coli, Aspergilis, pesticide residue and growers will be required to list ANY AND ALL products used throughout life of plant. Medium, foliar, fumigation.
Don't have a clue who would do the testing. There are currently no labs here that do anything like this for cannabis. Other labs refuse to test due to its federal status. Fools.
I feel is is a serious scare tactic that will rarely be inforced.

Peace
