When using large containers, seeds 4tw. Clones don't grow a tap root, seeds fill out the container quicker.

I just can't quite trust a seed without running it indoors first, and then running the first clones outside and they do really well too, but not as good as the seedling if it's a good pheno.

I do exactly the opposite. I test out my seeds outside, then my 3 favorites become my moms for the next year's hydro.

I'm starting to breed too, and have some of my crosses going in as well. Hell, maybe we could work out a trade of some genetics some time.

I don't know shit about breading really, but I've gotten really lucky with it. Been working on lemon thai kush for a few years now and it's really something special. It's a huge fast growing plant that yields well. Produces spectacularly strong buds with a really unusual smell/taste. It's downfall is that no matter how big the plant is, it still produces small buds. That's why I choose a big bud male last season. I'm hoping this is the year I've got it perfected.

My breeding isn't exactly a science. It involves choosing a male from a strain I like (this year jack herer), putting it in cheap plastic mini green house and then surrounding it with a bunch of clones I cut from my female outdoor plants. lol. So yeah, I don't really do it pro style, but I do end up with a very large supply of seeds.

Bro, I'm far from any more than a "pollen chucker", myself, but mI've come up with some winners too I'm working on. I have LA Con x MK Ultra I'm mworking on, as well as these Agent Orange crosses from a nice male AO I had. That Leman Tal Kush, sounds like something I would love to tinker with, soooo your lack of experience as you say, doesn't bother me, I'm no further than you are!
I think it's pretty cool that you do the exact opposite from me on the test runs haha. It shows that in this game,success isn't one way only...lots of ideas work! I'm gonna be watching this one all the way. + rep!

I'm also really excited about my e32 trainwreck x big bud.

The wreck is a clone only strain that already had lost all vigor and had some serious health issues that were passed along from mom to clone when I got it. I wasn't expecting much out of it so I threw the clones outside in some 5 gallon pots. I was amazed when they produced +20% thc bud still.

I didn't keep a mom of it because of my low expectations of the strain. I managed to reveg one of the plants long enough to get one sickly clone. I've kept it alive for a few years but have been able to grow out a mom strong enough to cut clones off of. It was really fucked up. I finally got a few clones to survive last year and used them to produce seeds. The seeds have grown big and healthy now. I'm hoping I got myself a fresh start on the strain.

Sadly, a really nice Jack Herer turned out to be male and I had to pull it today. But the good news is that was the last plant that hadn't been sexed yet.

Replaced it with another lemon thai kush. It's not as full as the jack herer, but the branches look much more stable. It still got pretty damn big in it's old 5g pot, so it's not significantly shorter although the jack was far more filled out.

Here are my other lemon thai kush's. When mature, they grow into really nice bushes that usually end up as wide as they are tall. They are pretty decent yielders capable of producing very unique flavored top shelf bud.

Indeed. The replacement plants are now too big for their 5 gallon containers and getting a little yellow. Now that I have no more need for replacements I've given the rest away with the exception of a couple I'll be making seeds out of.

However the plants that have been in the large containers are healthy as shit. Not a discolored leaf or abnormality in the whole grow. The only issue is supporting the branches which I've been working on.

Damn man your lady's are huge i thought i had a pretty good start vegging for 2 months but while mine were indoors under the MH yours where getting the real thing!!! nice bro have you used the smart pot before and what size. what were the results?

We definitly need to get together on some seed swapping. I would love to have a couple of those Lemon Tai, and I have some struff you would enjoy I'm sure. Your stuff is coming along very nicely......I'm jelly!!

great post keep up the great work, I am currently using 15gal black containers I noticed yours are in grow bags... I never tried them and wondered if going with grow bags would be cooler since they can breathe?
wondering if I should invest in those bags I am concerned that when we hit triple digit weather the roots might get cooked?

TBH I have no idea about heat. It doesn't really get above 85 here more than once or twice a year. I would assume that would be correct though. Also they make grey and tan colored ones which might be real good for places that get hot since black will absorb that heat. I use them for superior water drainage and because they are wide and short which I like. I've got height limitations and roots like to grow wide more than tall.

I love the taste of thais. Most of them are 12 week strains though which I can't grow outdoors due to the climate here late in the year. So it's nice to have a hybrid that finishes in 8-9 with the nice rich thai flavoring with kush looking nugs.

We used to smoke boo-coo Thai stix around base camp. We would get them from our 'supply sgt'! lol!

Nope. First run /w smart pots. Also first run doing organics. So far, I'm a fan of both.

Mosca pre 98 bubba kush x Old time moonshine is an absolute beast!

Just hit 7 feet tall. I topped it again today but at this point I'm pretty sure that eventually I'll need to hit this plant with phosphoload or gravity to keep it from outgrowing it's space. Don't want to do it, but I'm not sure that I'll have other options.

In other news, both my pineapple expresses, the grapefruit, and 2 lemon thai kushes have passed the 6' mark. The rest are pretty close. Only the replacement plants are shorter than 5 feet, and they are all pretty close to 5'. All plants have been topped at least twice.

I live by the ocean so I get crazy fog come october. The humidity stays around 80%. It's hell trying to keep these from rotting out. If anyone has any suggestions on how to stop or slow that down please let me know. I will lose a lot of this to bud rot.
