i'm glad you got your new bulb, it's nice when something makes you feel better going into a grow, or bloom!

stash reserve is always nice, would you ever consider 600w? just asking because i have a 4x4x6 bloom room that has a 600w hps with a 4"inline running through it. in all actuality i'm realizing it has about 3' to work with because of the pot height, light height, and distance the light needs to be away from the plant. this is my first grow, and i got the room from my professsional grower friend, he had a 1000w hps in it. i know you can tie your plants down if they get to tall, but i was just wondering if there was a reason for your bulb size choice?

good call on the hortilux. I'm thinking about getting one of their blue spectrum hps bulbs for my next bulb. it still has the red spectrum but also has a higher blue in it too so that'd help with stretching and still shower them with both specs

edit** love your avatar dc. [adult swim] doesnt play enough brak show. lol and zorak's the funniest motherfucker on that show. makes me laugh just thinking about the shit he says

hehehe yeah you gotta love the Brak show. Hucking filarious.

I don't think Hortilux knows how to make a bad bulb. Anything of theirs is the bomb. You sacrifice a little bulb life for it, but hey, like we don't make sacrifices in this line of work? It's never let me down! :hump:

Oh and Drella - here's my reason: I can pull a half P every 2 months off my 400w. I don't think I could make even more ganj dissappear that quick! I'm already smoking it as fast as I can! hehe there are worse problems....

But fer real tho, I also NEED to watch temp very closely because where I live it's hot. A lot. Actually too much. But that's ok. I just sit back, spark up the bong, and listen to the a/c kick on. Once I got my schwirl on it's nuttin but auto-pilot now. Plus I compensate for the portable a/c that I have to use by sticking with the 400w. That keeps the bill manageable. All the parts for a 400 watter cost less too. And last but not least - less heat sig. ^^

spoken like a true stoner getting high of your own supply! just enough to get by, or having your hands full literally the whole time. not a bad problem to have! keep it up DC! I knew you'd have a knowledgeable reason for you setup, like always.

I like. There really is a lot of similarities. All the nutes, watts, AC unit. I like how thorough you are with your journal and layout and such as well. Very cool. Will you blow the AC real hard at the end or just save the elec money? Is it a portable one that you can put into the tent or vent into it? How do you get your water?

Well Grop I have the portable a/c unit just pushed up to the back of the tent. I unzipped the lower half of the tent 'backflap' or door or whatever the hell that's supposed to be used for and parked the a/c unit right there flush with the back, blowing in. I had to set it up on a milkcrate to get the diffuser panel on the a/c high enough to not blow directly on the plants. It still hits em a little but not bad enough to cause any harm. Last run I had like 3 leaves that got windburned. I just point the a/c's air right at the cooltube so it blows up directly at the light. BTW my unit looks almost exactly like your's only maybe a newer model or something. You park yours in the right side of that closet, right? What do you do with your exhaust? I have all of mine going out the ceiling into the attic space of my apartment building. I live on the top floor.

As far as the a/c blowing hard at the end...I'm a little confused...but I just let mine run all the time 24/7. Basically it's the intake fan. The compressor only comes on when it needs to, and it keeps the air circulating in the tent for the plants even in the dark period. When the lights come on and things heat up, that's when the a/c'll kick on every once in a while. It's pretty active during the summer months, but it rarely even kicks on during the winter months.

I buy distilled water where ever I can find it cheap, usually Wally World for like $0.68 a gallon when I have the time to deal with Wal Mart. Otherwise I just buy it from the grocery store. My friend spent $200.00 on an R/O machine and it was the biggest piece of shit I've ever seen. He now buys distilled again too!

And thanks for the comments/support! ;-)

OK quickie update on the girls here!

I actually snapped these pics about 2 days ago, so these are from 12/05/09 or the 9th day of flower. They were still stretching a bit, so I haven't taken measurements yet as I'm waiting on the growth spurt to stop. In these pics you can see them beginning to 'tuft up' at the tops (that's what I call it when they start kicking in to flowering mode), and there're a few top-down shots.

First one is of all of em, second is of the Super Skunk sativa phenos, third is top-down on a nice SS, and last is top-down on a nice HashBerry.

More updates soon to come, so stay tuned!

EDIT!!!
Well RIU is apparently still all messed up, even though all the mods seem to think everything is just fine and the administrators don't seem to care. So, no pics for anyone because the site won't allow anyone to post pics! Here's what it's doing now...

I'm about 1 day away from switching to one of the myriad other MMJ forums out there. I'm just tired of dealing with this stuff. And the worst part is I get bashed everytime I try to make a suggestion or report problems on the site so that someone can actually know what to fix. I guess I'm just the asshole. So, check back but if I don't post again you'll know where I went....SeedBay, ICMag, Skunk forums, WeedFarmer, etc. etc. This is not the only one. Just look for dc beard there I guess.

Now just let me see how to delete my account here....oh yeah wait YOU CAN'T. How gay.

Mine actually sits just outside the right side and the intake to the tent and light are ducted to it directly when I need it. I feel dumb that my setup is finally summerproof right as the heat finally ends. I asked about the AC at the end because it's supposed to frost them up more and turn em purple if you do.

I buy distilled too. I was just hoping you didn't use whatever tap water cause it validates my hassles lugging distilled around. I'm gonna have sparkletts deliver to me soon, but for now I have three of those five gallon sparkletts bottles that I take to the R/O stations outside grocery stores. It's cheaper than buying a gallon at a time off the shelves, and less embarassing (a cart full of distilled water gets the "wtf" looks from people). I'm not about to try fucking with the plumbing in my rental house so no R/O filter for me either.

So Grop what do you do to camouflage the a/c unit? You just leave it sitting out all the time? I rent too so I know the hassles.

Thanks Drella, I was starting to think it was me or something! Oh well guess I'll just bend over and take it as usual for now. :hump: I might start working on an account on ICMag.com/forums though, just in case things get gay again and also to have a backup so if this site crashes and burns I still have an active account somewhere. I'll keep everyone posted.

I also plan on taking some more pics and measurements tonight, and uploading them tomo. The girls are really tufted up and starting to flower good now, and I think the stretch is about over. So check back tomo for a more in-depth status report.

Going to try to upload the 4 pics from yesterday again....keep em crossed....

COPIED FROM PREVIOUS POST:
First one is of all of em, second is of the Super Skunk sativa phenos, third is top-down on a nice SS, and last is top-down on a nice HashBerry.

Hopefully you guys can view the second pic, because I can't.

...and my exhaust goes through a hole in the closet to my porch outside. two inline fans share the hole with a dryer vent. That coupled with all the twists and turns slows down the fans a bit, but it's cold here now. During flower I'll have the tent closed most of the time, with sealed intakes from the AC and everything exhausted outside directly. I can't see any other ways to make what I have work more effeciently, so now lets see what kinda pot I can make.

Photo upload finally started workin I see. Those look real tasty. I've entertained the idea of starting over elsewhere, but I just don't wanna learn a new site.

I had no idea you couldn't delete your account here, that's BS. Why would they set it that way?! I'm gonna write to them today. Everyone should. This is a MMJ site, where paranoia is rampant - they must be stupid

Cool I got it now. I like how you have the a/c and the light vented out the same hole with a dryer vent cover on the outside. That's good. If you replace that tee with a wye it would lower the resistance on the fan and probably quiet it down a bit. I use 6" straight-pipe ducting and 90 degree adjustable elbows whenever possible to make for less resistance and less noisy airflow. The more direct (straight) the path of airflow is the better off you are. Less bends and crimps in the line makes air move easier and more efficiently.

Yeah just be careful what you put on here cause you can delete your pics on your profile but you can never delete your posts, they're here for life. Their excuse is that if all your posts disappeared it would throw the continuity of the thread off big time. While that's true, if your name and image were replaced by some generic avatar and a name like 'Guest' or something like most other sites do it would not throw anything off and the continuity of the thread would be preserved.

But nothing's ever going to change on that, I can tell you that now. Just browse the 'Support' (haha NO support more like it!) forum and you'll see about a bajillion requests for things that never have been addressed and also a ton of old complaints about problems just like the ones the site has recently been suffering from. These complaints go back years, so obviously no one is learning anything from these issues and no changes are being made to standard operating procedures to better handle the downtime when issues do arise. Oh but wait that's my 'Banking Corporate philosophy' in action there. lol That's what somebody on here (not saying any names) keeps calling my idea of website administration and says I should just quit making suggestions because it's a stoner forum and not a business. lol
