Cutting the tops of plants that are in final stages of flowering

Can I cut the top part of my plants that are in the last stages of flowering? If I do this, will the lower part of the plants begin to flower? My plants have a lot of buds on the top of the plant, but not on the bottom.

This is my first grow, and I have no idea if this will work.

Yes you can and lots of people do this as these small bud sites will fill out some. Some think it's a waste of time as the time spent to grow these buds out could be used to start vegging other plants. It's up to you and your grow style/needs.

if you have plenty of light in your room and it gets threw to the lower part of your plant then your buds will be good to go come harviest time.
