Cutting back vegging plants

I have approximately 24 plants to fill in my flowering section of plants. Problem is that my flowering girls are only 3 weeks into flower. That means these young ladies need to remain vegging in a 4x8 tent on flood tables until there homes are ready in 40ish days. Im wanting them to be about 1-2 ft tall when i move them to there spots.

So the question is, do i top and clone all the vegging plants and start with fresh small 6" cuttings or do i/can i cut back all these 1ft plants to a single small 2-3inch plant branch. Will this become a strong main branch again.

Thoughts or suggestions welcomed.

Thanks for the reply. Thats exactly what i did. Most were taken off the current tops of the old clones

I would have just hacked back the originals. I do that when I have to go out of town for a few weeks so the wife has less to deal with. When I get back they are all bushy and need a bit of pruning to make them pretty again and then up-pot and with the larger root system they grow like DWC and are ready to flower fast.

But that's just me. :)

:peace:
