Custome DYI Stealth Television Grow Box

While doing all my research months prior to starting my grow i started seeing all these expensive grow tents. I needed something extremely stealth and cheap. I also had an old projection tv that wasnt working and i was dying to get rid of it. So then came the idea of turning the mammoth tv into a lightproof grow box.

First thing i did was open the tv the best i could by taking out exterior screws. Then i completely gutted everything inside (lights, circuit boards, woodcasing for hardware). This wasnt really an easy task these old tvs are solidly built...lots of drop kicking makes the job easier and fun.

After getting everything out i noticed the tv wasnt exactly cube shaped. I mean that the back sat diagnol which took up alot of the inside space. so i had to remove half of the back of the tv and build some walls to make it an actual box shape. (most projection tvs are like this so if you make one you'll most likely need to do the same.

i cut a hold in the top so i could mount my ballast up top outside the box and just the light will hang inside. (my 250 watt light is connected to the balast..it sucks)

I hate spending money on things i can make..or think i can make. so for my exhaust fan i took a fan out of an old oven hood and mounted it to the back of the tv, behind a four inch hold i had cut. To make it light proof and air tight i cut about 4 inchs off the bottom of a pvc bucket, painted it black, gave the edge some ducktape to make air tight. Then i took that in mounted it around the fan and caulked.

For intake i stuck two small 4in computer fans in each of the speaker holes in the front of the tv.

The inside of the box is lined with this mylar coated insulation.

My large snake tank sits ontop the tv to hide the ballast. Also the ballast keeps my snake warm!

Everything runs quiet and is completely light proof!

What you think??

This badass. You are a champion. How do you plan on keeping people from noticing the back of the tv and the exhaust though? Couldn't they see it from a side angle?

well i have positioned such a way in the room now that the bed blocks people from walking anywhere they can see behind it. and the vent goes right out the window behind the tv. Thanks for checkin it out.

I was considering this idea myself, but thought it would be a lot easier to build my own. Props dude! I can't wait to see how this turns out.

I assume you light is a commercial high bay? There are many instructions on how to make it a remote ballast. Head on over to the do it yourself forum.
