Current Culture

Anybody running a current culture under current system? gonna get back into doing some hydro runs in my new grow shed being built. been doing a lot of research on them and a few other systems and wanted to see what an actual users thought about them. thanks.

I was all about the uc for a bit but the price point and the amount of water thats in the system was
a draw back for me..

hey bud, hope all is well. hadn't seen you since I got back. was worried you might have slipped away from us. happy new year. hope everything is well with you.

check out the new grow room build; we were talking about this before I had to leave early last year. construction is finally under way.

I've got a large enough chiller and the equipment to run the actual system itself. I researched it for a long time last year and I think I wanna get a small 2-3 light system going. i'm just trying to figure out if anyone has used them yet. i's build by own but the hardware stores here are pathetic. they look like the "tools" aisle at a gas station. LOL.

So I built my own RDWC system from scratch, modeled after current cultures undercurrent system, it works like a dream! So easy to maintain and growth rates are absolutely massive. You mentioned you don't have a hardware store around you that sells the parts, but really everything you need can be found online. I assume you don't have a lowe's or home depot near you? The uniseals are the hardest thing to find, but most aquarium suppliers carry them. If you can manage to scrounge all the pieces you need, building one yourself is hands down the way to go. I built my 4 site 1 control system for around $350, all in, pumps, tubes, uniseals, everything. The same system if purchased from current culture will run you $1,000+. Anyway, just some food for thought, but I highly recommend going this route if you're planning a RDWC.

thanks man. yea, I live in costa rica most of the year so it's hard to find anything for the rdwc systems here. I do order a lot of stuff from the states but i'd be worried about not getting the right part or something not working and having to wait 5 weeks for the replacement piece to show up. if I knew exactly how to build one i'm sure I could put together an order but I feel like I would miss one little piece and be stuck with something I couldn't use. maybe i'll try out a smaller one and get the idea of it; then I can just order the parts for a larger system and build it myself.

It would be great if this build had been documented as a journal.
It may be too late for that but how about starting a DIY thread that takes readers through it, step by step???

Cool man, Costa Rica huh? I've been down there a few times, love it! But I can see how you would have issues getting equipment. I'd be more than happy to setup a DIY thread on how I put my system together. It's really a very simple system, the trick is getting the holes cut just right so you don't have any leaks. This was a bit of an issue for me as I use 5 gallon buckets and obviously the walls are curved which is just begging for water to seep through. I think for my next grow I'm going to reconfigure my system a bit to allow more space between the buckets. But if you have any interest in checking out my grow, it's "Girl Scout Cookies RDWC Scrog Grow" in the DWC section. It doesn't give step by step setup instructions but it does have lots of fancy pics so you can see what I'm working with! Anyway, when I get home tonight I'll snap a bunch of photos of all the various pieces of my setup and explain how it's all constructed. Essentially I looked at a picture of current cultures undercurrent and fashioned my own, used all the same parts they do, except for the grow buckets, they use rectangular ones and I use the 5 gallon buckets. Look for the new thread this evening! I'll include a parts list and step by step instructions on how it all goes together.

Alright so I posted a quick tutorial on how to setup a system like the one I built. Not a complete tutorial as I'm currently in the middle of flower, but there's lots pics so if you're at all handy you should be able to recreate what I did in any sort of configuration you desire. If you want more or fewer than 4 grow sites, simply adjust accordingly. The only pain in the ass about setting up one of these systems is getting the PVC all cut to the right lengths, it takes a little planning but it's super straight forward and VERY easy to accomplish. Off topic but im needing to pick up a mini split thats good for x4 1000 in open shields with co2 burner (non water cooled type) a ideal air 100pint de-hu and the room is sealed....................
What brand and what size you think is the beast choice?

depends on your ambient temps in your room. basement or attic? with no grow equipment in your room what are the average temps in winter and in summer. could be anywhere from 2-4 ton. you want a single blower though. not one of those units that has 4 blowers. They end up being really inefficient and working against eachother.

Well lights on no ac its running 85f to 90f but thats with a temp control on the room fan. And no co2 so
my temps are right if i was co2 charged at 1500ppm but adding that burner will jack the temps up.......
plus its winter so summer will throw a twist in there.

no attic or basement just ground level.
only option that fits my setup is a mini split!

yeah that easy do it, i have seen 18000BTU keep room temps of 4 x 1000w light in check these hoods where cooled hoods thou. in a 12x8 space

hey hell, that will get it done for sure. even if you add the Co2. 2 tons of cooling with an ambient temp that low will be plenty even when summer comes. get rid of the intake/exhaust fan and seal the room up. add co2 and that a/c will cover the load. you probably won't even need the dehumidifier near as much. I would say a little 30-50 pint would do the job because you a/c will take a lot of the moisture out of the air.

I switched over to a current culture system last year. I've done DWC and ebb 'n gro in the past and I've never had happier plants as I do right now with the UC system. I figured I'd have some leak problems with all of those joints, but my system is tight as a drum.
