Curing?

As a newbie grower, I was just wonderin...what is the point of curing?

For some reason I thought I was just supposed to trim the plant, hang it in a dark area and wait a while.

Now Im reading about curing being part of the process. Why? What does it do?

curing....drying same shit different mind, and your right all you have to do is hang in a dark ventilated (need humidity to be down in order for it to dry) area to dry although if you do some reading you may find some very cheap ways to make your own drying/curing contraption that can cure/dry your bud in way less time.
