Curing methods

20160226_201312.jpg Hi all,

It's about that time where we will be chopping and curing. Our last grow was pretty awesome if I say so myself. We yielded over a lb dry in a 4x4 grow tent. I'll attach an image if you're curious what it looks like.

The one issue I had was our buds were overly dried after curing. We hung and let them dry for around four or five days (until they had a nice snap to the stem). Then jared about 3/4 to 4/5ths full and opened for an hour a day for three weeks or so.

The buds all were very dry (not much moisture left) Can anyone tell me how to keep the buds a bit more moist? Thanks!

Thanks for the advice. I think the issue may be the temp. It is very hot here and we stagger harvested depending on the strain so the light was on in the same room. I will definitely look the packs up. Thank you again.

keep jars in cool dark places. below 70 degrees. colder would be better if possible. dry buds in cool dark places too.

I think the problem was leaving the lids off for an hour a day. I have only done it once so far but as i understand it, all we want to do is change the air in the jar paying attention to the humidity of the air we are letting in.

I just opened all the jars and kinda fanned fresh air into 'em with a piece of cardboard and ensure they were not sticking together, then close 'em up. only open about 10 mins/day.

I do use the boveda 62% 8gm. packets, that is a good suggestion someone made but they are not too good at removing humidity, really better for hydration but if you can get it close, they will dial it in for ya.

I did this everyday for the first 3 weeks then went to once/week for a month and that is where I am now. I guess it's time to go once/month now.

i jarred up my buds once the stems make a little crunch noise, not snapping the stem in two. i gave them about 4 days of hanging before doing so.

only open jars once a week. use boveeda packs. if you open jars everyday or every hour. The curing process never takes place.
once a week for how long? this friday will make 2 weeks since i've thrown my buds into the jars.

I like to cure for about 6-8 weeks depending on the strain. Longer cure improves the terpene profile via polymerization.

mb, i meant if you open the jars once a week, how long are you leaving them open before closing them again? & 6-8 wks is what i'm aiming for. maybe by the 3rd week i'll sample a small nug to see how it's going.

Like 20 -30 min.

I am trying to understand this...
so at no point are the jars opened daily at all?
what is the purpose of burping the jars? if it's just to replace the air why not just fan fresh air in & close it up. why open 20-30 mins?

You need to open the jars to prevent mold in the early stages of curing. When they are fully cured you can leave them in the jars indeafanatly without ever removing the lid.

ok thanks, i would still like to understand more about this process... wonder if Rosenthal has anything on the subject?
Am gonna do some research on this. the way i did it seemed to work out great, nice & smooth after 8 weeks now but that don't mean i did it properly, just made it work perhaps...

* edit: do your buds retain their stickiness after curing? mine were not near as sticky as right after final trim.

respiration and hydrolysis break down plant matter in yiur cutting..sugars starch chlorophyll etc
starting with fans then sugar leaves..
the warmer the faster these processes move, enzymatic activity etc, but can make a poor product ie brown mex brick weed with little aroma left
rh to keep stomata open and facilitate this exchange., dont go below 40%.., hihh rh slows wter loss and allows for mire o2 rich airflow or an inherently aerobic process.
mold of any type wont typically thrive under 60rh giving the top number.

any other qs or need something explained ?
i dont really mind

Thanks bro, i sincerely appreciate that. a lot of folks tend to play a pretty brutal offense on us first-timers.
I may take you up on that. I will do a little homework before pestering you with questions tho.

thanks again!
