I use the Bodeva 62% packs.....I've found that they work best if you cure normally, and then add the packs.
I've found that I have to take a bud out for the day and let it dry out for a couple of hours as the Bodeva's keep the buds a bit too moist to roll right out of the jar.

agreed roach i noticed as this but only if my jar gets under 10 grams or so..they seem to keep my bud just right so long as I have between 1/2 and a zip in a mason jar with one 8gram boveda.

after dry i will put in a paper bag sealed for a day or so and rotate the buds let it get a nice even moistening and then i start my jarring with boveda62 still burping as if i had no boveda pack in there for the first 2 weeks after that i just seal them and open as needed.
I like the fact or that i think this protects my bud with the constant hand in the jar...before it seemed it would dry out to quick for me with the boveda i assume the humidity gets set back quickly.

If it's accurate it helps but it doesn't add back humidity w/o overdoing it.

that is a very good point
the bud has moisture in it so the ambient humidity will not effect the air in the jar. The humidity will rise inside the jar as moisture leaves the bud. That is why it important to "Burp" the jars during curing. As I understand it this is not the case if you use the Bovide packs, the extra humidity gets sucked into the pack.

yeah, doesn't a hygrometer just tell you the rh of what's in the jar? it doesn't do anything to adjust the rh up or down like a boveda pack does, no? i've never used either, just curious as to how a hygrometer gives a better cure is all..

The simple answer is no. Time will always decrease the moisture in the container as every time you open and close the jar the air in the jar will have the tendency to stabilize to whatever the RH in the jar from the moist buds. This pulls moisture from the buds and then is released into the air the next time you open the jar again. If you were to keep the buds in that jar in a dark cool place without opening them once they went into storage, the buds would stay moist for much longer but I would say they would eventually start to dry out regardless. This is why others keep recommending those moisture packs.
A hygrometer allows for better curing for some because it shows them what the relative humidity is inside the jars so they know when and how much to burp and when to stop. There are growers that can and do cure without hygrometers perfectly, probably just takes a little bit of experience to get it down with or without a hygrometer. And no it doesn't affect the humidity it just gives a reading of it. Sad thing about hygrometers is that to get a reliable one that is accurate at high humidity your looking to spend $100 minimum.

Burping dozens of jars sux. Boveda 62 will keep it happy without human intervention OR with intervention.
If you want to be hands on then hygrometer lets you know what's up in the jar for sure.

I use a hygrometer to make sure the boveda packs are working correctly. I use the little $4 digital hygrometers on ebay and 8g boveda 62 packs. After stabilization, they are always right at ~62% rh. Boveda 62's are about $1 per 8g pack and were designed for cannabis. Why would you not use them is the question.
sorry if you can't see it, it's right at 62% in the jar. I try not to open too often. I'll get a day's worth and put it in a jar w/ out a boveda pack so it will dry out just a tad during the day.
I just throw one in the jar, when they are done, they will get hard, they stay good for quite some time.
Here in CO, humidity is only around 20% so it's pretty important IMO. If it gets too dry it loses all smell and flavor.

Okay I bought a 10 pack... I have the smaller mason jars will they work good too ???? I just stick these packs in the jar and that's it ??

Yes and yes. If the boveda pack looks sweaty/damp then you jarred it too wet.

The idea is to let them dry down to about 60% humidity naturally. You want to let your material dry, at least 3 days depending on relative humidity before putting in jars with a boveda pack. Curing is drying slowly. They need to technically 'dry' before putting into jars, and once in jars, you need to 'burp' them, opening for a few min a day or more.
