Curious about this as well as I am going to be switching over to perlite and promix bx in 5 gallon hempys to make my life easier. Your results are hard to argue with!

I also use the 3 part gh flora series. As I understand it, both these media a basically inert. If you don't mind, what are your feed schedule and ratios like?
I follow the complete floranova expert drain to waste schedule. You can find their feeding schedule online. The expert line includes rapid start, floralicious plus, diamond nectar, flora blend, flora nectar, koolbloom powder, koolbloom liquid, floranova grow and bloom..

I also use silica to raise my pH in my nutrient solution instead of ph up.

I alternate full feedings with a feeding of only cali-magic, hygrozyme and snow storm. This mixture requires no ph adjustment when using RO water

I use RO water for both feeding types and I feed/water every 2-3 days depending on how far I am into flowering. I might water every 4-5 days early veg

The clarification is mucho appreciated!

Have you had a run before without the complete line and just the base nutrients? Has the complexity and added cost been worth it in your grows?

I personally aim to keep things as simple as possible, but then again, you're the one pulling 1.1 g/w! :weed:

Well when only growing one plant I haven't had to buy nutrients for a bit, so I don't mind using the extras.

Also, GH sent me some starter pack for like $10 which had most everything I needed.

Just got to call them and ask for it.

bb, with your nice small set up, would you advise any extraction? Im going to replicate your system, the smell is my only concern really. I have sourced the aavid heat sinks that Cree tested. I will have two 80cm pc fans both to additionally cool and create a slight breeze.
Im a UK newbie and would your wisdom!

Depends on your level of smell comfort and size of area but if you are worried about smell go with at least a non skunky strain. That blue widow I had was a super stinker so avoid that for sure.

I have a C99 from Mosca that is 49 days in flower and my wife didn't even believe me I was growing a plant.

She was shocked when I opened the cab because usually we notice the smell by this point.

If you can incorporate a small carbon filter in your cab that would be ideal, otherwise the ozone generators work if you put them in areas where you are worried about smell leakage.

Foothill filters on ebay has refillable carbon filters as well as ones with built in fans you just plug in wherever.

Also, don't be turned off when you think of a low odor variety, just think that it's not that super stinky skunky smell everyone is familiar with.

Plenty of nice strains that smell like lemons, vanilla, pineapple ect.

Best of luck

You should consider using raw salts. It sounds complicated, but it's really no more complicated than mixing those bottles, and WAY cheaper. If anything, it's a lot more straight forward. Snow storm, for example, is just diluted potassium hydroxide (KOH). I just add KOH directly to the reservoir in flake form.

You can get K2SiO3 (potassium silicate) in raw salt form for a lot cheaper than diluted bottles of potassium silicate (like dynagrow's version). Bloom boosters are just KH2PO4 (monopotassium phosphate). I just use potassium hydroxide flakes as pH up, however.

Don't know where to start? Start at Mix #15!

N : P2O5 : K2O ratio = 1 : 1 : 1.9

K : Ca : Mg ratio = 1 : 0.6 : 0.19

Ingredients per 10 gallons of water:

KNO3 - 8.47g
KH2PO4 - 9.81g
Yara 5Ca(NO3)2 . 1NH4NO3 (double salt) - 25.5g
MgSO4 - 15.4g
KOH - 2.88g

FeSO4 - 0.942g
Na2B4O7 - 0.234g
MnSO4 - 0.233g
Na2MoO4 - 0.005g

That will put 10 gallons of water at about 1.3mS/cm.

If you don't know what one of these chemicals is, google will tell you.

All of the ingredients in bold can provide 100% of the macro nutrients for any hydroponic formula. They are all extremely handy to have around, and so cheap it's hard to justify not getting them. Yuo'll never need "bloom boosters" again, for example. Just add more KH2PO4, the main ingredient in bloom boosters, and balance the pH with KOH.

Many thanks bb, have bought an inline fan and variable adapter. Bought some activated carbon with a view to making a filter. Your experience on strains is invaluable and will be employed next time, only as bought a kush indica since last post.
Thanx for takin the time to respond, appreciated.

When you use cali-magic, hygrozyme and snow storm is it a foliar feeding or a reservoir feeding and what is your mixture?

Nice job with the Cree 3050.
How is the coverage.. or does the CXA3050 COB light spread quickly?
Are you using any secondary lens or reflector to shape the light beam of CXA3050?

I wonder if your custom mod is working out better than the original DS100 ?

By the way I am growing hempy style with a mixture of 70% perlite to 30% coco and using the entire floranova drain to waste feeding schedule

Strain is Blue Widow by Dinafem

In the mean time, I will be modifying my clone/veg container with a 5000K CXA LED and sprout some C99's that I am extremely excited for.

I have heard nothing but amazing things on C99 and I love me a good sativa!
bbs, Did you get the 5000K CXA LED going for clone/veg, if so how many did you use and do you have any pictures?

bbspills, I was inspired by your work too, and I could get 106 grams dry for a single plant

My setup was: GHS Trainwreck, 4 x CXA 2530 (37W each), 80x80 cm grow tent, 10L coco hempy.

Fuck yeah , thats a nice haul for a 100 Watts !

Thanks for the Journal BB , After reading this awhile back and seeing your results I built Me two 3050's. Link is in my sig if you want to check it out. But after 3 weeks now the buds under the 3050's are fatter by far then the buds under my Commercially made grow sun 160. So the grow sun is getting Sold really soon and i have a 3070 already here that needs to be put together. For the Center Piece I ordered a CXA3590 2700k. Mouser has some in stock right now Link http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=CXA3590-0000-000R00AD27Fvirtualkey57280000virtualkey941-CXA35900R00AD27F. For some stupid reason i am going to grow legal since i am in Colorado. 3 plants in flower is the legal limit with 6 plants total here. So going to try out a triangle plant config with the 3590 in the center then the 2 3050's and the 3070 will go over each plant towards the outside. I can smell the FAT BUDS burning already ....Not really sure why the hell i want to grow legal. Been smoking since the 70's and never really gave a shit if i was breaking the law. I guess it is just be cause i can ...
Have you flowered with the 2700k 3590 yet? I'm thinking about getting one and trying out the red side of cobs
