Maybe a radio on a timer. Set it to go off around 1-2 am and play cougar sounds. I'm sure you could download some mp3 of cougar calls and burn them to a disk then play them. There is something called an, "Anti Coyote Sound System" which plays cougar calls based on the natural fear coyotes have of them. GL, Sorry about your cat man. :peace:

I don't have night vision. That's the biggest problem.
No problems.

Coyotes are both smart AND territorial, so I'd use that to your advantage.

First thing is to establish YOUR territory with scent, so that THEY know when they are encroaching. Walk your property boundary and mark it with scent items. Good scent items are sweat soaked T-shirts / drawers, or pieces of fabric soaked in urine that has been boiled to reduce the H20 content and increase the aroma. You can also use poop. All you have to do is soak the fabric, cut a little piece off, and simply tie it to a tree branch or some shit.

Once your territory is "marked", the next task is to identify it as a dangerous place where coyotes get shot in the face. Do that by finding a spot close to your property boundary where the little fuckers are traveling into and out of your territory. Your spot should provide you with decent visibility and a good field of fire. This is your kill zone. Pick a spot overlooking your kill zone and build / set up a tree stand. Clear out any vegetation that interferes with any potential shooting lane.

Once you've established a kill zone, it's time to bait that motherfucker. Get some meat and cram it into something that will allow the scent to escape, but won't let critters get to the meat. Tin cans with holes, meat wrapped up in metal screening, whatever, as long as the scent can escape. Tie these in the trees at waist height, and in a spot you can overlook them. Scatter some meat in the kill zone for the critters to eat. Man the tree stand before the sun goes down, and wait. Once the little fuckers show up and start feasting, light em' up and blast em'.

In time, the coyotes will associate your scent items with your territory, and getting shot in the face. They will avoid your territory for places with better chow and no coyote killing riflemen. All you gotta' do is refresh your markers from time to time.

Best of luck regardless.

I "mark" my territory on a regular basis. I havent lost any of my animals yet to coyotes yet but theyre around, i hear them all the time. I did loose a couple to food allergies a couple months ago and we left them out in the field as bait and they showed up. I fired a couple shots at one when i found it eating with my pistol but missed on the first one and the second shot was just a frustrated shot into the trees. We sat out half the night once too with lights up and saw nothing. If i have any trouble in the future im going to use bait and poison because staying up all night under a blanket laying on the ground sucks. Good luck, kill those bastards kill em all.

I'm not a big fan of the DNR or there rules, but you should read and try to follow these.
You will be able to cull only with calls so take the alphas.
After about. 2 you will need dogs.
Sorry Sunni it's nature. I'm the largest predator.

Sorry about your loss doc
