100% manure? How long did you let it compost? I know that chicken farmers clean out the chicken houses between grows and we spread it on our pastures. It makes the grass grow like crazy. I wish I could grow in the great outdoors.

It is about 5 yrs old. I did amend it with Epsoma garden tone and happy bulb frog food. I also used voodoo juice twice and have been giving regular feedings of silica.
Chicken manure is great stuff but I wouldn't dare use bulk of it in a grow like I do cow manure. There is some chicken manure in the epsoma.

Chicken litter (manure) with feather meal is marketed as all round organic fertilizer by Megalamart among others. Great stuff for our purposes!

It would be a serious bummer if I cannot use my compost because I am pretty invested in it. I recycle soil on the concrete slab, worm bin out of pallets, and the geo bin for grass clippings.

Weird. What do you feed the rabbits? I feed mine a varied diet and use composted as well as fresh rabbit manure all the time. Never had any problems with it.

We compost cow, horse, chicken and rabbit manure. Compost it along with things like straw, various vegetation and left overs from clearing our garden. Some cardboard, coffee grounds and anything else available.

Actually the worm medicine is a myth as well.

I used to think that and posted it here and several people posted a bunch of info to say otherwise.

We should all try to be free of chemicals when growing but that's not always possible.

As long as the compost sits long enough it's safe to use.

I'm still not completely sure what my problem is... My raised garden bed is doing wonderful but the same soil in pots didn't do so great. However, the raised bed sat for about 2yrs before I planted in it because it is a"Hugelkultur" bed. Also, it has pine bark fines mixed in the soil. I noticed that soil has not been doing as well since I stopped using a mix that contained composted pine bark. I will probably lay low until I figure this out.

I was using Metro-Mix 902 but it has been re-branded but it is the same company... This should be close to the same stuff that I was using to mix my manure compost. I have been having problems every since I switched to straight peat. http://www.sungro.com/professional-product/fafard-52-mix/

Yea. It's the peat.

I'm going to quit using it. I've had a bunch of issues pop up since I started using peat at just 1/3 of my base mix.

I've gotten bad bales of peat that caused all kinds of problems. I just put them in my compost pile.

SpagnumPeat Moss can vary from very acidic to extremely acidic so that must be dealt with and initial wetting can be challenging but never came across any “bad” SPM. I grew up seeing it harvested. Some areas have really a lot of it. The Spagnum Moss itself is beautiful and interesting.
