Couple questions.. (light spectrum & wiring)

Hey all, I got a 500W Halogen floodlight from Rona a while back,(for 20$) and was wondering what spectrum of light does Halogen fall under? i checked the stickied threads but none said anything about halogen's.. maybe i missed it but if someone could point it out/ let me know. thx :D
Also in another thread someone was asking if they could wire a black & white wire indoor. Another person replied saying yes even with an old lamp outlet just twist them together, Is this really possible, and if so i have a ground wire also so where would that go? ( really have no clue about lighting :( )

if u really want to wirer up the ground try finding a 3 pronged extension cord and use that, if u dont there is a small risk of shoc especially in a grow area.. Also halogen im sorry to say is about the worst for growing herb, It runs too hot and doesn't have enough light in the right spectrum to do the job.. Ive seen them able to sustain a plants life but nothing quality... A better bet would be some cheap compact flourescents, they run about 2.50- 8 bucks a peice..

people dont really use halogen lighting to grow because the bulbs are extremely hot and make for many difficulties in the grow room. also they are inefficient compaired to HPS and MH lighting. your best bet with grow lights is to go with high pressure sodium bulbs, metal halide, or florescent. i think if u do ur reasearch you will find that nobody uses halogen.

Yes but i dont got the money to spend for HPS / MH, this is my first grow just a learning experience. So i am using Fluoro but i wanna add a bit more light with the fluoro cuz its not enough.. I am going to try and get the CFL's, i am looking right now at Rona's webpage and their highest watt cfl is 26W. Wondering what other peoples CFL's wattage is and where they got it?

Do you have a local Walmart , Lowes , HD, or ace?? All those places carry cfls up to about 32w and the hardware stores usually carry 42w and the big old football sized 65w
