Couple Questions: GrowBox, Ventilation

So I've never grown indoor but with winter coming I am going to give it a shot. As of right now I have a “somewhat stealth” growbox that I am already considering using but the space I have available is what’s pushing me away from it. Here’s a couple pics of it in my closet:

The distance from the rim of the 2 gallon buckets to the rim of the 150 watt HPS light is only 20”. Now my outdoor Purple Urkel was only about 2 FT tall and very bushy and turned out some very nice bud, which is the only reason I haven’t throw this growbox out yet. I have 2 computer fans both 120 cfm wired into 12V chargers.

Now my questions is should I even bother with this growbox? I want to grow some bushy short plants again and I’ll probably get some more purple clones, but I’d like to know is this even possible while growing indoor in a small cab with a 150watt hps? My other question is how can I lower my box temps by a couple degrees? I am not sure on the exact tempature since I don’t have a thermometer yet but I could smell the paint after leaving the light on for a test run about 3 hours as it seemed about 90 degrees inside. Would a pitcher of ice and a small desktop fan help at all? Maybe attach a duct to the top of the light and to the exhaust fan instead of the carboard box surrounding? I have read a lot around the forums and couldn’t really find any 150 watt grow boxes since it was such a small grow most people I’ve seen on here are using CFL’s in growboxes.

If I decide to throw out this box in a month or so I have another box I can use for design. It measures 47” Tall x 27.5” Wide x 24” deep. If I do this I will probably upgrade to a 250 or 400 watt HPS (looking for input) and get a inline fan. I don’t know too much about fans but here’s a few I’ve gathered from looking around online.

Looking for the best buy as I am really conservative on the low income I have but still want something that will be a great setup. I am planning on attaching a carbon filter to one of these aswell, and keep in mind that it must be stealth, no loud fans. ANY input is appreciated!

Thanks!

Hey man, your setup looks a lot like mine. Check out my box in my sig. Mine only gets 5 degrees hotter than room temperature with one 80CFM exhaust fan.

I am working with less space than you and I am LSTing my plants around the rim of the pot to keep them short. Look into training methods and/or a short strain and I'm sure you can make that space work out well for you. I've seen grows in less space before....

Ask me any other questions about my setup if you have em. I admit I am a noob to growing but I have done my homework.

thanks for the reply, your cab looks nice what do you have along the walls kind of looks like a reflector for a car windshield lol. Also your fan looks alot nicer than the 2 fans I am using ebay ($3ea shippd) . Also wondering if any light leaks through your fan? where can I find one of those ... and is that a car intake on the side?suprised the fan puls air through there

The walls are lined with reflective insulation. I got it at Home Depot and stuck it to the walls with spray glue. I really didn't need to do anything to the walls since they were flat white melamine. The fan I have is the Vantec Tornado. It puts out a shitload of air for only being 80mm. It is a bit loud though, so it may not be a good idea if you are going stealth. With mine flowing through the filter, it isn't much louder than my computer.

I have louvers on my intake holes and the exhaust runs through the intake DIY carbon scrubber, so I don't have any light leaks. That 4" intake filter actually stuffed with a perforated 3" pipe surrounded by activated carbon. It flows beautifully with little resistance. Intake filters actually don't offer any resistance to airflow. You'll see more of a restriction with a mesh screen.
