Couple of questions...

After last years failed attempt to grow outside I have decided to do some planning this time around.
First off I am going to be bringing in soil because the earth where I’ll be growing again is very rocky, heavy clay like mixture. When I pulled my plants last year the root system was very immature and my guess is that was 80% of my problem. Also, the fact that I was growing a sativa in a short growing season would account for the other 20%.

Anyhow, my plan this year is as follows…

I am going to use Vic’s Super Soil recipe which is below and I will be growing the mostly indica Master Kush strain.

1 Bale sunshine mix #2 or promix (3.8 cu ft)
8 cups Bone Meal - phosphorus source
4 cups Blood Meal - nitrogen source
1 1/3 cups Epsom salts - magnesium source
3-4 cups dolomite lime -calcium source & pH buffering
1 tsp fritted trace elements
4 cups kelp meal.
9kg (25 lbs) bag pure worm castings
- Mix thoroughly, moisten, and let sit 1-2 weeks before use.

I do have a few questions. I recently was introduced to coco coir and currently am vegging a few plants in it now. I absolutely love the stuff and am convinced that it would make the soil even better if I used it as a substitute for the peat based sunshine mix or promix. Has anyone ever tried this? Do you think it would be a good or bad thing?

Also, I am debating about weather to use containers or to dig out holes and place the good soil inside of it and plant into the ground. If I were to use containers, what size should I use? Or would digging holes and planting in ground be better?

Thanks for your help in advance!
