Could someone explain what ec/ppm is??

I have a rough idea it's about the percentage of mutes used or something, I think anyway and if it is how do I decide how much is enough for an aeroponic system?

You are right, in one respect, it is the measurement of the strength of your nutes, ec and ppm's are the same, just some meters measure in ec others in ppm's, I believe it measures the conductivity of the solution, but don't take my word for it, what's important is it measure the strength of your nutes.
I use this chart as a starting point and adjust as needed, bare in mind some strains can take higher doses than others, your plant wil tell you, just keep an eye on them, I've taken the liberty of converting to ec in case yours reads ec rather than ppm's, hope this helps.

PPM for Hanna Chart PPM

Seedlings, Early Sprouts ........100 to 250 = .2 to .5 EC
Early Vegging ......................300 to 400 = .6 to .8 EC
Full Vegetation ....................450 to 700 = .9 to 1.4 EC
Early Blooming ....................750 to 950 = 1.5 to 1.9 EC
Full Mature Blooms ..............1000 to 1600 = 2 to 3.2 EC

PPM is usually the rough percentage of materials that remain in water both as total dissolved solids for instance and total suspended solids.
  • So for instance you have a random water sample and it comes back as 120ppm of total dissolved solids [aka hard water].
  • In that sample 120 parts out of 1 million are various dissolved substances and the other 9,999,880ppm's are technically water. [With further sampling, this wouldn't be true, but for the example.....]

EC is the electrical measure of dissolved substances in solution.
  • So back to the example those 120 ppm's of various dissolved substances in your sample could be metals or semi-metals as well as non-conductive materials, but they will have a charge according to the amount of ppm's registered [as the little chart was provided above from EC to PPM].

thanks bro, this is the shit I was looking for, this real helpful man, on last thing, for example say I got 40 gallon res, do I put the nutrients in until 300 to 400 shows up and that's how I measure it?

Which side of the truncheon are you reading for this? Mines says x500 on one side and x700 on the other. I always use the x500.
