Cooltube vs Cooled Hood?

Im looking for some opinions on whether I should go with a 1000w cooltube or a 1000w aircooled hood....I will be flowering with it in a 5x5x6.5 tent and want to get the most out of my ladies :) It sesms to me that the hood would be more efficient and less hot spots, but then again the cooltube my run a little cooler and weigh less...what do you guys think?

Here are 2 examples of what im considering: the cooltube is about $35 cheaper, but that doesnt concern me as much

Cooltube:

go with the air cooled hood if possible "cooltubes" are garbage in my opinion block lumens and send the light all over the place.

hehe you do know the glass cooltubes are made out of the same glass as vented hood right? lol
SO what does that tell you? ;)
If your going vertical cool tubes are awesome i use 3 of them. If not stick with vented hoods.
With a candle light meter there is no different with lumen loss between cool tubes and vented hoods especially since the glass is usually made from the same material.

$319 for a vented hood and dimmable ballast? That's awesome, they must fuck you on the shipping :) I am currently running 2 600w HPS, one's a cool tube inside an over sized reflector and one's an oversized vented hood. I got the cool tube first and loved it, until I hooked up this new vented hood. I like it a lot better than the tube, I let one lady get too tall and she's almost touching the glass on the hood, and she's not burning at all. The glass is just warm to the touch, whereas the I can't get as close to the tube as it's just to hot 8 inches or closer. If I could do it over I'd have two hoods...

P.S. I blew a bulb today in the hood reflector, I just unscrewed one side and just opened it up to replace the bulb. If the bulb blew in the cooltube, I would have had to undo the ducting which would have been a major PITA...

Haha really? Turning one little screw a few degrees on a clamp fastening the ducting would be a "major PITA". From what i recall there's 2 screws on a vented hood keeping the glass up. Then you got a big chunk of glass swinging at your face.
Lol now in reality is that really that dramatic ;)

I don't have clamps on my ducting, I probably should have :) I have my flex ducting secured with a couple of layers of foil tape, working great so far. Changing the bulb was a little tricky by myself: I had to undo the 2 screws, the the glass swung open (it's hinged on the other side or I wouldn't be able to do it alone). I held the glass with one hand and changed the bulb with the other, not too difficult...

Yeah bro I guess or you could just not use the glass shield and air cool like most people do.

Vertical is a whole different story but judging by the links he posted and the dimensions of the tent given I would assume this is not going to be a vertical grow.

Im definetely not doing a vertical grow...im considering a 5x5 tent grow with one good sized 1000w hps setup, maybe after a few grows, who knows..
I may add a vertical light for more side growth...but thats down the road.

How do you have you vent system hooked up to get the lights so cool? can you help a noob out? I am wanting to setup 2 air cooled 600 watt hps and am not sure about fan placement, daisy chaining, etc...

yeah me too im getting an air cooled hood and wanted to know if i should push air thru it with fan blowing onto light then out ther side or pull air thru with

------Fan ------air flow----LIGHT------- OR --------LIGHT-------air flow----FAN---)
-------) ------)
OR DOES IT MATTER?!?!?!
