cooling manifold question

I am trying to design a cooling manifold for my vented lights and am hoping someone can help me with the layout.
The cooling setups that I have seen in the past have been air in at one end of the room and air out at the other, catching all the lights in between. This might work well for a couple of lights but I can see this being a problem when running five or six lights ie. heat moved from One light to the next and so on.
What I have in mind is a setup like what a forced air system in our house uses.
I want to run a fixed intake manifold along one side of the room (on the ceiling) and the fixed exhaust on the other. The intake would be tied to One side of the lights and he exhaust would be tied to the other.
What I need to know is how can I assure that all lights get equal fresh air.
If I run an 8" max fan on the intake and exhaust would it be as easy as reducing to a 4" flexible ducting then into the lights?
Sorry fo rthe long description but I wanted to be as clear as possible.
Hope I got it right.
Thanks for the help!
