I have a 4 inch about 165 cfm active air inline fan. Will it work with a 6 inch cool tube if I get a reducer? Is there a big difference with a cool tube?

Yes the fan will work, that being said - more cfm = better cooling. I have read everywhere that everyone that goes with a 6" regrets it and switches to an 8". Huge difference in the temperature reduction but it has been said that you lose up to 30% of the effective lighting through the lens. I was going to hang 16 of the 8" cool tubes and was convinced to just pay for the extra air conditioning. In the short term I will make out like a bandit. Cool tubes are $65ish for a 8" on ebay and I need 16 of them. That's $1040. My electric bill for the extra cooling wont exceed $300 a month so I will have more light on my plants and save almost $150 over 3 months and get up to 30% more yield. I have to agree that it is better to let them hang free and add cooling. Depends on the size of the grow I imagine though.

thanks for your reply. I can get the 6 inch for $52 on eBay they wanted like 100 at the grow shop. when you say hang free do you mean leave one end open? my temps get to around 90 if my ac isn't on so I want to see if I can lower that a little with a cool tube so I don't have to run my ac all the time.
