Colloidal/ionized silver solution

Hi folks, today I made what I believe is ionized colloidal silver solution. I used two pure Canadian Maples in RO water (not distilled) The resultant water was silver like the coins. I could see the ionization happening as a stream of tiny bubbles between the coins. I did the red laser test and it was solid through the solution. Will this be a workable product? I am a bit worried because it is silver in colour, maybe the PPM is too high? I did try to avoid exposing to light when it was being made but there was a bit of light exposure for a brief period. Also I didn't use de-ionized water as I didn't have a way of getting any. I could make De-ionized RO water though, perhaps I will make some and see if there is a colour difference from regular RO.
 
Spraying my C99 with the solution daily as I switched to 12/12. Will update this thread I guess since no replies maybe someone else could benefit from the thread.
To me it looks like a colloidal silver solution as it is clearly ionized and has silver particulates as well. I'll know in 10-14 days when my Cindy starts popping balls I guess.

Hmm I use STS/AgNO3 and mine will go a little dark once I mix the two parts if I expose it to light. Let me call someone who can say something knowledgeable about this @cannabineer

Have you measured your PPM, What is it. You want to be around 50.
 
Yeah its probably around 100PPM @ 50 scale, although ionization cannot be measured by PPM. I could see it leaving a dark trail of particulates in the water, silver in colour, so when I mixed it - it makes sense why it is the same colour. I clearly saw the ionization process happening between the coins as a series of micro bubbles. Plus I put it in the dark for most of the time during the colloidal process, it was exposed to light only at the beginning for a bit. I only took it out of the dark cupboard to take this pic.

It's been years since I used colloidal silver solution to reverse sex. I use the silver nitrate/sts solution now since it only requires a single spray or two and works. It's just much simpler. The collodal silver method works but requires spraying over an extended period of time and is more time consuming. You can get the chemicals for the silver nitrate/sts solution easily and inexpensively. I recommend you look into that method in the future. It makes things much easier to get the same result. Mix and spray. Done.

The water turning silver suggests to me that your silver was decomposing (into that gray sludgy liquid in the pic), which means you cannot know how much of it is actually ionized/dissolved. Ionic silver is clear and colorless.

"Ionic colloidal" is a contradiction; it is one or the other. Ionic silver is what works, and it is stabilized/activated in the mix&use STS recipes by the presence of a fourfold molar excess of thiosulfate. The silver thiosulfate complex is what inhibits ethylene action and promotes growing male sex organs.

The stream of tiny bubbles is electrolytic gas formation, not a visual tell of ionization.

The red laser test was "solid"? What outcomes are possible, and what did you observe?

Bottom line - I think you made precipitated (neither colloidal nor ionic) silver suspension in that jar. How much silver ion is present ... I cannot tell you how to find out unless you have an AA-capable lab handy. (I don't.)

I would do it @xtsho's way and make ionic silver thiosulfate solution of known silver content. It makes for much more reliable silver action (in this instance rodelization).

What recipe (quantities, concentrations) do you use?

Interesting. That is the formula I first made for my grower friends. I got it from a 420magazine link. It was a bust. I've since gone to the Sigma/Aldrich recipe which is many times more concentrated. The stronger recipe worked. Here's a link from phytotechlab; it's the Sigma/Aldrich formula in a very clear recipe.

I've used it successfully numerous times. I'm not a chemist so I'm not sure if it matters but there were two kinds of sodium thiosulfate available when I purchased mine. Anhydrous and Pentahydrate. I ordered the Pentahydrate by mistake and then ordered the Anhydrous which was specified somewhere when I first used that recipe.

I have just recently used it to reverse a feminized plant. Just two sprayings and less than 2 weeks under 12/12 lighting. The plant is reversing and producing pollen sacs.

I use the pentahydrate myself. Cheap and stable. You just have to work with the formula weight on the bottle.

~edit~ If it works for you, I would not mess with success. But my batch worked way better once I upped the silver concentration.

~edit again~ Sodium thiosulfate anh. f.w. 158.11 g/mol.
Sodium thiosulfate hydrate f.w. 248.14 g/mol.

So use 156.9% quantity for the hydrate

LOL How did I become a plural? You cloned me didn't you :D yes the first example was to weak to be effective. Your second was nicely effective. My C99 and my GG#4 thank you.
 
Thanks for your detailed information on STS guys. I read that the colloidal silver that works has an 80/20 ionization to particulate mix, I was hoping the colour was due to the particulates which I can clearly see in the jar, although I know it will absorb wave lengths of whatever light it is exposed to. I guess I will just keep spraying this C99 for the next two weeks and let you know if what I did worked, and how reliable it was in terms of producing male pollen. I am spraying the whole plant 1x a day right now. Definitely not as efficient as STS but I'm curious at this point if my simple experiment will work.

Hey thanks man, I am in Canada so I had to order this stuff from the US it seems unless I want aqueous solution. Alas I am no chemist so since this works for you I am going to try it your way.

I ordered:

Sodium Thiosulfate, Anhydrous, USP Grade, 500g

and
Silver Nitrate, Reagent A.C.S., 25g

So hope that is the right stuff.

My little experiment did not go so well.

@xtsho I see you recommend doing the whole plant, but if you wanted to self pollinate a plant, could you just do one branch of it for example? Or will spraying one branch cause the whole thing to convert?

Im keen to try this but i want to get the balls off before they open and then use it on another female but different strain..so if i get them before they open ...what do i do nxt..do i crack them open , dampen the branches i want to pollenate then use something like a small paintbrush and brush it on the buds?
