Cobs Suck !!

@RainDan Should go back to the other cob offerings he had in the past. Just my humble opinion. He's vero 29 exclusively now. They look great on paper and are pretty cheap but again I've had numerous failures.

I am curious to see Dan's response though. I push his products a lot on this site and this would change that unless there is something being left out.

When I went the COB route I decided to use more COB's and drive them softer so I wouldn't have to use fans. It would seem like he is driving them too hard for passive cooling or perhaps the light got hotter than it should for some reason, maybe defective COB batch or something. Just hoping there is a valid explanation other than to think that all of his lights will fail.

Absolutely. They are built like tanks and have top notch components. I just think we all underestimated the heat coming from 100w cobs. Vero 29 specifically. In veg the light is running 50% power. Only see issues when i push the lights late in flower. 80% power and up.

One thing I like about COBs though is if the chip dies, it's a cheap replacement and very much easily doable if you use chip holders and not direct soldered. That said I haven't had one die lol

Completely agree. Imho too hot for passive cooling.
The other bank on the timber has graumaus pucks installed with no issues.

I hope Dan replies with some explanation why he drives them so hard without fans as an option at least. Maybe he has something to say on the matter...
