So... i seem to have beaten the brown sludge problem. Bud growth exploded... and hardly any sludge was found in today's res change. I think it was just a problem caused by too high of an EC and dropping it was all i needed to do, along with some h2o2.

Anyway, one problem solved only to run into another...
The buds are making the plants top heavy. Two tipped over... i discovered at lights on today. Not sure how long they were like that but hopefully they will be okay. Meanwhile... desperate times call for desperate measures. I put nooses around all their necks so they dont try escaping again.

Right? Lol

And its only wk 4. Gonna have serious problems when they actuslly start to chunk up in a couple weeks. Lol

What do you think of my theory about the sludge? I just cant imagine i got an infection in the res. I run really clean in everything. Im ocd about it.

So... i figure that my EC was out of balance for the amount of light. EC would slowly rise while the plants were drinking 3.5 gals a day. Didnt make sense until it struck me that that maybe the nutes were going the other way... its like too much light made them anerobic or something and stuff was leaching out of the plants. I dunno... totally clueless about hydro. But it seems once i got the EC down it stayed stable and so did the pH for days and days and the plant went wild. Its like i hit a sweet spot....

Anyway... the sludge... it seems like the plants were shitting themselves till i got the sweet spot.

It happened as pH rose? If you use silica it could be that. It could also be a nutrient interaction between calcium and sulfur, as in calcium nitrate vs epsom salt. Just guessing here...

No... no silica.
And yes... ppms rose while ph rose a bit. Nothing wild.
Must be the sludge solids raising ppms or ec. Just cant figure out where the sludge is coming from... maddening.
Think i have a handle on it now though. We shall see...

Howd it turn out?
Meh.
Only 2 pounds.
They stalled out a bit from over feeding and the sludge prob that it created. Plus i picked a sativa leaning pheno for this run, which isnt a producer.
But next run will be much better. Im close to dialing on the cobs and nute strength. The rest will be just fine tuning nutes for specific strains.

i feel like alot of it is strain, gotta have that strain that has a shit done of budsites and you have big massive colas, im currently harvesting a 5x5 and im only gonna get maybe 1.5lb, peyote cookies.. cant believe some people can manage with 4lb+ with co2 on a 5x5

Do you run cobs?
When i ran hps and promix in 5 gal pots i would usually get 1.5 out of 5x5.
Then i ran the same in 8x5 and would average 3lbs. So only 2 lbs in this 8x4 was a bit disappoining

Yeah I've got about 1500-1600w worth of vero 29 over 5x10 or so; but atm I'm currently focusing on getting super tight internodes.. surprisingly buying a T5 was the best thing I've made for seedlings and small plants, the heat it gives off and the light Is keeping it really tight. Just need to get it perfect under the 1000w light when I move it over
Also is that 3lb off the entire section of 8x5?
Theres also good strains out there that do 3-6oz a ft; I need to start running them lol

Ya... 3lbs in the 8x5... 8 plants, 5 gal pots, under 2x 1000w hps.

I use a t5 for seedlings, clones and my momma plant. I even flowered the mom out under the t5 and it did great!
