Our local trading post has a few of the Fox Farm soils and Platinum Growers mix Coast of Maine soils.
Anyone use the COM soils?

I used some Coast of Maine "Growers Mix" and some FoxFarm "Happy Frog" in 3 gallon pots to see what my young plants liked best.

The Coast of Maine stuff was way too hot and my poor plants were stunted and unhappy with dark purple stems and light colored leaves. The "Happy Frog" plants were super happy and healthy and grew great.

A few weeks later I mixed some of the hot Coast of Maine with some of the more mild Happy Frog to get a nice intermediate soil. I used this mixture to repot the healthy 3 gallon plants into 7 gallon pots a week before flowering.

The plants seemed to love the mix and are still looking great, now 3 weeks into flower. It worked out OK in the end.

So anyway, watch out! That Coast of Maine stuff is Hot.

I have been using Stonington for a few grows now. It does really well in big pots. If you pot up into a 7-10 or even 15 gallon pot, you will have all the plant needs aside from some top dressing right before stretch.

Growing in smaller pots will require more frequent and regular top dressing, so plan accordingly.

Stonington mix is my favorite. I get great results in 3 gallons and feed MegaCrop. The one in the pink bag is garbage. The lobster compost is good.
