co2 quetion

it should be pointing at the leaves, not the dirt, make sure you seal around the straw too. I would not ventilate when using co2, but you do need to watch the heat. Co2 is haevy, and when it leaves the straw, it will go down to the floor, so you may consider a small fan, maybe a pc fan.

would it be alright to put a 2 leter bottle with homemade co2 next to the plant with a straw pointing into the dirt?
CO2 is heavier than air so it either cascades down on the plants or you disperse it with a fan. If you are using a 2 litre bottle, do not worry about exhausting. It will be difficult enough to maintain 1500 PPM's of CO2 to begin with which is the optimal level to have (1200-1500 PPM's).
