Co2 burner, what are you paying for?

So, from what I have seen from these units. It’s a flame and an ignition source either piezo or standing flame. I don’t need anything UL rated, but fire on a gas line seems simple enough.

anyone make something out of a fireplace burner, bbq or water heater.

I understand all of the functions of this, really considering a DIY. PLEASE save me the safety talk. A gas valve from a fireplace or water heater proves flame for the pilot.

someone has to have made something.

I mean, just what you said.
Get a water heater gas valve and line, make sure to have the thermocouple on it so it kills the gas if the fire goes out. Put it in a little gravel pot or something.

I should add that, your home owners or rental ins may not like this and refuse to pay you out in case there is a fire.

You're not going to want to put fire any where near a gas line with a diy device. A gas fireplace is basically the same thing and they are fairly cheap. The co2 burner has a gas pressure regulator and a temperature safety feature if it over heats. Unless you are trying to file an insurance claim or something I wouldn't attempt it. Just use a 50lb co2 bottle

Like I said, I’m aware of what could go wrong. For liability sake let’s speak hypothetically then. There’s a thread about someone using a tankless water heater modified. It’s a flame with a control device inside of a box, not rocket science. Just slap it in a box and distribute it through Hawthorne and it’s magically safer?

I also am a cheap ass and did the same diy math but decided on a purpose built generator. If you figure in the time and worry it wasn’t worth saving a hundred and some odd dollars.

Ya, I have a lot of extra stuff around. Enough to ask the question in a completely serious manner.

FWIW I have a background in sheet metal/HVAC and have troubleshooted hundreds of gas appliances. Can I make device to make flame in box without boom, ya. Has anyone actually done a diy burner?

They aren’t expensive, and There’s a robust resale market in my area. Just really got me thinking about how simple this device actually is.

I made an used one for yrs, Iam a gas tech i just tore the pilot guts out of a fireplace an set it up on sheetmetal an let the pilot run 24-7 i needed the heat anyway most pilots are1000 btu per hr. not sure how one could hook it up to a control to maintain ppms

100% I agree with all of this. I have attached pictures of my prototype design, it's kinda cool. Put alot of work into building and programming it.
It uses a high quality Cozir co2 sensor, Iot Relay, touchscreen and uses team viewer to be easily controlled by the laptop. I just like that it's customizable I could add cameras or watering systems or self tuning nutrient reservoirs, precise timing, and fan/humidity control.

The co2 could be easily monitored using a system like I made here. The worst that's gonna happen is you catch your house, the neighbors house, everything on fire and have to pay out of pocket, Or pay 300$ for a premade burner. Either way burners are horrible and you don't want to use them. The increased ethanol from the burner will make the plants ripen prematurely, and won't put off enough co2 to raise the levels substantially before it gets too hot. You could use AC, but a 50lb co2 bottle is going to put off no heat, accurate co2 levels, safer, and affordable, and will yield much better results, 2-4x the capabilities of a burner. Not to mention ngas and cooling cost.

People practically give those burners away for 2-300 bucks I would not waste my bread at all. No matter how simple they are, I would not use or build one if it were free
