So i have a 42 sq ft closet i plan on putting a 400w in. my question is would a 250cfm (or around there) be big enough to create negative pressure or would i need an intake fan?

coltrole the presure with the size of the passiv intake holes .. keep just enough negativ presure to keep the smell in ..

Ooh yea and make sure to get a cool tube with that 400W

So is that like 2x3x7? Slipon is right about the cool tube.I made one last week and the temps now are the only 2 degrees higher than the outside room. When I used just a reflector temps could get pretty crazy sometimes.

it would be enough to create negative pressure. Depending on ambient temps, it may or may not be able to cool the light. Make sure to get an aircooled hood.

I'm also curious...where will the vented air go? Are you concerned with odor or is that under control? Also if you can use an air cooled reflector do it.
Good luck!!

lol realy .. so did I :D

here is mine:

still in Veg and also need to add the ventilation and tubeing so have`t tryd it out yet .. but my temps out side my grow room often hits +80F with summer and evrything .. and I even live in scandinavia .. so temps in my grow room hits +85F and I dont like that .. hopeing for 82F .. and 76-78F rest of the year ..

dunno exatly how its best for me to run it ..

so will try two diffrent ways I think .. have a 4" and a 6" ventilation ..

fist I will try to keep the 6" as it is with the filter on as outtake and use the 4" alone on the cool hood and vent in from out side the room and out agin useing a tube to a vent hole out of my house so I get rid of all the hot air so I dont reuse it ..

if that is`t working I might try to use the 6" on it with the filter on aswell .. so its filter .. tube .. hood .. tube .. vent and out ..

any oppinions ? sorry for hijacking your thread .. but heat is a strugle .. if I schould do it all agin from the start I would realy consider to use a few month to safe up money and do a lot of research and then go for a nice big expensiv LED fixture ..

Going to blow vented air into room conjoined with closet. I saw some gel online that you put near your an and it's supposed to help with odor. Also I've seen a air cooled hood that had an attachment with solar panels and a fan. You connect it to the light and it sucks out the light heat. Anyone know of these work well?

lol no .. but if you have a url or a pic I would like to see it ..

and yes you can get uno gel or what ever its calld .. but a carbon filter of some kind is a must if you ask me .. unless you live alone on a island and cant smell shit ..

like this .. but get the cool tube between the filter and ventilation ..

I have used the Ona gel before I got a big enough fan. It works but it will make your house smell like a freshly cleaned bathroom. It didn't bother me too much but the wife wasn't havin none of it lol. I still use it if I think the smell is too much and someone is comin over I'll open the bucket for a few minutes and it eats-masks the smell for awhile. I have a fan that works now, I don't filter it but my nearest neighbor is 300 yards away. It vents out the roof and I've never smelled it outside. Solar powered fan, umm I doubt it would pull much air. I know it would take a pretty damn big solar panel to turn my fan lol.

The cool tube I made is open on the end. So a separate vent would be needed for filter. I'm using a 4 inch on the lights and an 8 inch for venting the room. but my room is 210 CF. For 42CF you could probably do filter--> cool tube--> Just make sure you get a powerful enough fan.

Seventh Day Adventist hospitals use oils for odor control and I can promise you hospital wards have some smells. If you need odor control you call pharmacy and they send a bottle of peppermint oil. Unscrew the cap and place another cap that has a wick attached under it. Stink? Raise it up. Still stink? Raise it a lot. Oils like these must be purchased at a pharmacy at the pharmacy counter. No script needed. Works like a charm and smells good too. There are more oils than peppermint too.

look damn nice .. Rep for that .. love building stuff myself and see others come up with great idea`s

and my 6" vent is pretty powerfull did a good job so fare .. go it Bc. my 4" was to small .. but would be most easy for me to just leave the 6" as it is .. at the top .. as out take .. with filter on .. so it also clear odour and then use my old 4" (then it also come to use) purely on the hood with a closed tube in/out of the room .. atlest I will try that fist before I begin to changes my 6" set up ..

have the tube .. just need to drill two holes in the masonite (easy got a big 4" cup drill) and easy to close agin if I go another way ..

if all fail (do have some concerns about the glass/alu tabe and heat) I could allways do similar to you .. and use it with out the glass and just pull hot air away from it/the plants and up to my filter/outtake .. useing the 4" and a pice of tube and just block one of the holes in my hood ..

That hood you made looks sweet. Is that rivits? Best check more about ozone generator, seems I remember hearing bad things about them. But I could be wrong.

yea I used closed stainless steal rivits from work .. and red silicone to seal it (1100 Celcius silicone)

and yes be carefull with them ozon generators .. dont take em apart .. the inside can be harmfull .. but they are made to be used so they schould be safe .. if you dont mess with em or use em in a wrong way ..

they are often used at waiting rooms at the dentest/doctor and at nusery homes ..

so should i have a bit bigger fan? i put the length and width of my closet in a cfm calculator and it said 42 sqft. 60cfm's to clear room in 5 minutes or like 320cfm's to clear in 1 minute.

I can only tell what works for me. My room is 5'x6'x7', thats 210 cubic feet. I started withs a 4" 200 cfm fan. it didn' cut it. I now use that 4 inch for the cool tube and added an 8" 670 cfm fan to exhaust the room. it works great. I maybe coulda got by with a 6" fan but the 8 was only $20 more. Hell I started out using an old bathroom exhaust fan gradually upgrading to what I have now. If i could do it all over again I would have got the 8" first and wouldn't have had the headaches I had in the beginning. --Later

Thank you for the info StraightJacket. i think ill push for a 400cfm. Ive been thinking about getting a air cooled hood but with the size of my closet do i really need to worry about it getting hot as hell?
